Table-topping Sunrisers will now meet the Chennai Super Kings in Sunday’s final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.

The Sunrisers looked to be well below par at 150-7 with just one over to go until the Afghan legspinner smashed 24 off the last over from Prasidh Krishna to finish with a remarkable 34 not out from just 10 deliveries with two fours and four sixes.

Rashid then picked up three of KKR’s biggest wickets – opener Chris Lynn (48), Robin Uthappa (2) and big-hitting Andre Russell for three.

Sunrisers total of 174-7 proved too much for the home side who were restricted to 161-9 thanks largely to Rashid’s brilliant bowling in the middle overs.

Shikhar Dhawan and WP Saha made steady progress after being put in to bat on a tricky, spin-friendly surface and posted an opening partnership of 56 before two wickets fell in left arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav’s first over.

Dhawan (34 from 24 balls) was lbw sweeping before the tournament’s leading run scorer, captain Kane Williamson (3), was caught behind edging a wily googly to Dinesh Karthik.

Karthik struck again with brilliant reflexes to stump Saha for 35 from 27 balls after a Piyush Chawla leg break had struck the batsman’s pads moments before he lost balance only to see the ‘keeper grab the ball and remove the bails.

Bangladeshi allrounder Shakib al Hasan carefully rebuilt the innings and was poised to accelerate when a straight drive partner DJ Hooda flicked bowler Kuldeep’s fingers before crashing into the non-striker’s stumps leaving Shakib stranded and run out for 28 from 24 balls.

But Rashid’s remarkable hitting transformed a faltering innings from under-achievement into intimidating.

Although Lynn, Sunil Narine (26 from 13 balls) and Nitish Rana (22 from 16) took the Knight Riders to 93-2 at the halfway point, they were unable to maintain the momentum or cope with the brilliant variations of Rashid.
