Parker confident of win over United

Experienced Kaizer Chiefs forward Bernard Parker says the side is confident of three points when they host SuperSport United in an Absa Premiership clash at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday.

Chiefs were held to a 1-1 draw by Bloemfontein Celtic in their league opener on Sunday, but Parker says that disappointment is already a thing of the past.

“We must just minimise the mistakes we make and focus more on ourselves. We should have the upper hand against SuperSport. We are the better team. We just need to take control of the game come Wednesday,” Parker told reporters on Monday.

“This match should be a definite three points for us. Although, of course, we should focus on getting three points for every game we play, no matter how it comes.”

Parker did reflect back on the draw with Celtic, suggesting Chiefs had the upper hand in the game before the ball struck the arm of defender Lorenzo Gordinho and the home side won a penalty that was converted by Atusaye Nyondo.

“It was a good match for both sides. We took the initiative after about the first 20 minutes of play, when we had figured out the condition of the pitch at the Free State Stadium. We started to jell, especially in attack,” Parker said.

“The energy was right and the team spirit was on point, even though we should have accelerated after having scored the game’s opening goal.

“Celtic tried to come at us in the second half, but we looked solid in defence. It was only that incident that got them the equaliser. We just lack at present that ‘little bit’… I am not sure how to explain that, but we will get there.”
