Opening day shock for MDC Champions

The return of the multichoice Diski Challenge brought a total of 17 goals in the six games played Champions Mamelodi Sundowns suffered a shock defeat.

The Brazilians opened up the new campaign against last season's runners-up and it was a case of revenge with Bloemfontein Celtic running riot in a 3-0 win on Saturday morning.

With a plethora of debuts handed from both sides, Thabo Mile stood out with a brace against Masandawana while Kabelo Dlamini grabbed a solitary strike.

In the other encounters Cape Town City, who've restructured their entire reserve team during the off-season, thrashed Polokwane City 7-0, while their cross-town rivals Ajax Cape Town beat Chippa 3-1.

Goals from Masilake Phohlongo, Sedwyn George and Justin Jacobus proved to be the difference at the Wolfson Stadium.

Bidvest Wits and Baroka drew 1-1 while the only goalless encounter of the opening round was between Platinum Stars and SuperSport United.

In the final game of the day, Orlando Pirates downed AmaZulu 2-1 with striker Thabiso Kutumela scoring two goals to highlight his availability for first-team selection.

Captain Ricardo Lourenco produced a sterling performance in the middle of the park and was integral to the Buccaneers' attacking fluidity throughout the encounter.

Usuthu did manage to find a late consolation, however, with Sandile Khumalo's wonderfully taken header.
