Ogbonda bullish ahead Cup tie v Osun

Ibom Angels head coach, Whyte Ogbonda has said his side are hungry for trophy ahead of the Aiteo Cup clash against top-flights, Osun Babes.

The Orange Girls are guests of the Oshogbo landladies in Wednesday’s Aiteo Cup round of 16 clash at the Oshogbo Township Stadium.

Ogbonda said his side see the Aiteo Cup as a wonderful opportunity to make up for their inability to qualify for the Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) Super Four championship.

“Our sole mission in Oshogbo is to make sure we come out victorious against Osun Babes in the Aiteo Cup round of 16 clash.

“It’s still hurtful that we did not make it to the Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) Super Four championship despite a concerted and dogged fight.

“It’s our desire to make up for the failure at qualifying for the NWPL Super Four championship with the Aiteo Cup.

“The truth is that we have not won any trophy in the past so we are quite hungry to win trophy and the Aiteo Cup looks quite like it.

“And the surest way to go about realising our lofty dream for trophy is to beat Osun Babes in today’s Aiteo Cup round of 16 clash.

“I think we have everything to win the clash once the officiating is 100% fair to both sides in Oshogbo.

“Although we have few key players in the national team we have worked very hard to get capable replacements I believe they will come to the party to deliver the goods.

“Right now we do not think their absence will hurt us badly as the replacements have shown enough zeal to fill the gaps creditably.

“Though we did not have the opportunity to play the opponents, Osun Babes in the out-gone regular season we played the side last season and I believe not much has changed in terms of the make-up of their players.

“I think I know the side and I have been able to obtain vital tactical and technical information about the team that will help us greatly to undo them.

“Ibom Angels do not underrate any side rather we give due respect to our opponents so Osun Babes will get our respect as long as it does not hinder our dream for victory.

“The hunger for trophy is sure to push us to the highest height to get the vital win against Osun Babes,” said the former Rivers Angels coach to supersport.com.

Winners of the clash will automatically progress to the quarterfinals of the annual football championship.

In case of a draw there will not be extra time or penalties rather the match will be replayed at the visitors home ground on Saturday, September 16.
