Cricket South Africa (CSA) congratulates the South Africa U19 Women’s team for finishing as runners-up in the ICC Women’s T20 Under-19 World Cup 2025 in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.

Kayla Reyneke’s team made history by reaching their first-ever World Cup final, where they suffered a 9-wicket defeat to defending champions India at the Bayuemas Oval in the Malaysian capital.

Despite the result, it was a memorable campaign for South Africa, who, like India, entered the final unbeaten in the second edition of the tournament.

The junior Proteas topped their group in the opening stage with impressive wins over New Zealand, Samoa and Nigeria. They then advanced to the Super Six stage, where they secured a victory over Ireland, while their match against the USA was washed out. They continued their strong form by defeating Australia in the semifinal on Friday, setting up a final clash against India.

“Congratulations to the captain Kayla Reyneke, head coach Dinesha Devnarain, and the entire team and support staff on this magnificent achievement,” said CSA Chief Executive Officer Pholetsi Moseki. “You have made the nation proud.

“We are especially delighted with the resilience and character the team displayed throughout the tournament. Reaching the final unbeaten is a monumental feat that speaks volumes about their skill and their passion.

India sealed the U19 Women's T20 Cricket World Cup title by beating South Africa by nine wickets at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday. 

The Indian women secured the win in 11.2 overs, chasing down the target of 83 set by the junior Proteas women and defending their ICC Women's Under T20 crown.

South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first. India got an early breakthrough as Parunika Sisodia dismissed opener Simone Lourens for a duck.

Shabnam contributed the second breakthrough, taking the wicket of the dangerous Jemma Botha to reduce South Africa to 20 for two at the end of the fourth over.

Aayushi Sharma grabbed the third wicket, bowling out Diara Ramlakan, further reducing South Africa to 29 for three at the end of the powerplay.

South Africa were in a precarious position at the halfway mark, struggling at 33 for three.

The South African skipper had to depart after she tried to release some pressure with a big shot, but the ball instead went straight into the hands of Trisha Gongadi at long-off. Gongadi would go on to be named as the Player of the Match and Player of the Series. 

With four overs to go, South Africa were 58 for five. Fay Cowling and Mieke van Voorst set up a small partnership and looked to carry South Africa to a formidable total, but it was not to be.

This partnership was broken by Gongadi and South Africa failed to recover, further slumping to 82 all out.

DOMINANT INDIA

India got off to a fantastic start, reaching 18 runs without losing a wicket in the first two overs. Their strong momentum continued, soaring to 36 without loss after four overs in their run chase.

South African captain Kayla Reyneke made the first breakthrough, claiming the crucial wicket of Kamalini. India were at 44 for one at the end of the powerplay.

India continued with the flow of runs, reaching 65 for one at the end of the ninth over, with Gongadi batting at 38*.

India sealed the match in 11.2 overs, chasing down the target of 83 and defending their ICC Women's Under T20 crown.

Under the leadership of head coach Dinesha Devnarain, South Africa have enjoyed a dominant run, remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament.

Their opponents and defending champions, India, also enter the final without a loss, setting the stage for a thrilling contest.

The team has also drawn strength from a powerful mantra shared among South African athletes: “They don’t know what we know, and they never will.” This belief has fuelled their resilience and determination throughout their campaign.

Speaking ahead of the final, SA captain Kayla Reyneke reflected on the team’s journey, mindset, and approach to the final match:

"The mood in the camp is very positive. Of course, there are a few nerves, it’s normal, it is a final; but we see it as just another game, another hurdle to overcome. The team is ready to go.

"We always emphasise discipline and consistency, both on and off the field. It’s about focusing on the small things that drive us as a team. We also avoid looking too far ahead, taking it one game at a time,” said Reyneke.

“One key takeaway from the semifinal is the importance of staying calm under pressure. Cricket is a team sport and having each other’s backs along with the incredible support from our coaches and management gives us confidence.

South Africa have qualified for their first ICC Women's U19 T20 World Cup 2025 decider following an impressive five-wicket triumph over Australia in the first semifinal in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.

The Proteas excelled with the ball on the back of Ashleigh van Wyk's four-wicket haul and were on song in the field as they restricted Australia to just 105/8 and cruised past that target with 11 deliveries remaining courtesy of some excellent batting from Jemma Botha (34) and Kayla Reyneke (26).

The win sees South Africa maintain their unbeaten status at the tournament and sees them qualify for Sunday's final against either India or England.

The Proteas held on to a trio of difficult chances in the field, with some late hitting from Ella Briscoe (27*) helping the Aussies reach three figures after they won the toss and elected to bat first at Bayuemas Oval.

Nthabiseng Nini set the ball rolling for South Africa by dismissing the dangerous Ines Mckeon with the opening ball of the match, with van Wyk (4/17) getting in on the act at the death courtesy of some help in the field.

Seshnie Naidu held on to a tough return catch to dismiss Eleanor Larosa for just seven, before Luyanda Nzuza produced a similar feat in the field to send Hasrat Gill packing as the Aussies crawled to 62/5 with a little more than five overs remaining.

Caoimhe Bray (36) and Briscoe increased the run rate from that point on, but their total just north of 100 seemed a bit light on given South Africa's strong batting line-up.

Chloe Ainsworth bowled Simone Lourens with the first delivery of the third over to give Australia some hope, but Botha remained at the crease and seemed intent on keeping the run rate high as the Proteas maintained control of the contest.

The loss of Fay Cowling and Botha did little to quell the run rate, with Reyneke and Karabo Meso combining to take South Africa within sight of the victory target.

The pair fell in quick succession, but Mieke van Voorst and Naidu joined forces to ensure there was no late slip up as the Proteas eased into the title decider.

Among them are Karabo Meso and Seshnie Naidoo, who have already earned their debuts for the senior national team, an achievement that underscores the strength of South Africa’s talent pipeline.

Western Province’s Jae-Leigh Filander, Jemma Botha, and skipper Kayla Reyneke are also a product of the KFC Mini Cricket programme.

“I started playing Mini Cricket in Grade 1 after watching my brother play. I thought I could beat him, and from that moment, I fell in love with the game,” shared Filander.

“Mini Cricket played a crucial role in my journey because it introduced me to the sport and fuelled my passion to keep playing. I would advise young cricketers to keep playing the sport. If you have a passion for the game, everything will fall into place. Always give 100 per cent because, in the end, hard work and dedication will take you far," said Filander.

KEY STEPPING STONE

Meanwhile, the CSA National Weeks serve as another key stepping stone in a young cricketer’s journey, fostering age-group cricket and allowing players to hone their skills at a competitive level.

Easterns’ rising stars, Mieke van Voorst and Ashley van Wyk, exemplify the success of this system.

Having progressed through the U13 and U16 Girls Cricket Weeks, they now find themselves representing South Africa at the World Cup while also making a significant impact in the Women’s Pro Series for Eastern Storm in Division 2.

Reflecting on their partnership, the duo credits their time together at the U16 National Week for strengthening their on-field chemistry.

“Representing our country in a World Cup semifinal is a big moment for us, but we’re staying calm and trusting in our preparation. We have incredible support from our coaches and management, ensuring that we are mentally and physically ready.

“We strongly believe that if you put in the hard work behind the scenes, your dreams will become reality. It may seem far away, but if you take it step by step, success will come,” said van Wyk.

Their commitment is not only evident on the international stage but also in their determination to elevate their domestic team.

“We relied on each other a lot, batting together for long periods allowed us to understand and complement each other’s game. We are always striving for Division 1 status with Eastern Storm. The experience we’ve gained at the World Cup will help us bring back valuable insights and lift the overall standard of play within our squad,” shared van Voorst.

The Women’s Pro Series has been instrumental in developing and nurturing young talent across South Africa.

The professionalisation of women’s cricket, sparked by the Proteas Women's historic ICC T20 World Cup final appearance on home soil, was further strengthened by investments from the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC) and key partners.

With the entire SA U19 Women squad already gaining exposure to professional cricket at such a young age, these rising stars are well-positioned to make a lasting impact on the game in the years to come.

The Asian side performed well with the ball to restrict the West Indies to just 54/6 from their 13 overs and cruised past the victory target inside nine overs on the back of an unbeaten 25* from opener Juairiya Ferdous.

Mst Anisa Akter Soba claimed a pair of wickets as the West Indies struggled in the conditions and Bangladesh eased home to move up to third place on the Group 1 standings.

INDIA V SCOTLAND

Scotland won the toss and chose to field but were quickly made to regret their decision by India.

Openers Kamalini G and Trisha Gongadi unleashed a barrage of boundaries, propelling India to 67-0 at the end of the powerplay.

Their attack didn’t stop there; the pair continued to pepper the field with boundaries, taking India to 104-0 by the 10th over.

Kamalini G brought up her fifty in style with a boundary, before Scotland finally claimed their first breakthrough, courtesy of Macie Maceira.

The Indian opening pair set a new record for the highest partnership in this World Cup, amassing 147 runs. Trisha Gongadi then made history, scoring the first-ever century in the tournament. She, along with Sanika Chalke, powered India to an impressive total of 207-1.

The total of 207 is not only the highest score in this edition but also the second highest across both editions of the tournament.

England join India, Australia and South Africa in securing semifinal spot for the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup with a game to spare.

England sealed the last semifinal place in U19 Women's T20 World Cup action, taking on New Zealand in Sarawak in Monday's only match.

With their six-wicket win, Abi Norgrove's side joined India, Australia and South Africa, with the trio locking in their final four spots after Sunday’s action.

The English went into their match knowing that three other Group 2 teams could mathematically still nick the place in the last four: Nigeria, the USA and New Zealand.

THE SUPER SIX STANDINGS

How England secured their semifinal spot

In a campaign that has been affected by the rain thus far - with one group match and one Super 6 match lost to the weather - England have stayed focused and seized their opportunity against New Zealand.

Tilly Corteen-Coleman did the damage with the ball, taking 4-8 as New Zealand mustered only 89 runs all out, put in to field after Norgrove won the toss and put them into bat.

She was ably supported by Prisha Thanawala, who took 3-19, and Trudy Johnson, who finished with figures of 2-7.

In their response, openers Davina Perrin and Jemima Spence made quick headway into their target of 90, with a late cameo of 17 runs of 15 ball from Charlotte Stubbs getting England over the line.

HOW INDIA SECURED THEIR SEMIFINAL SPOT

India won all three of their matches in Group A, beating Sri Lanka, West Indies and hosts Malaysia to progress to the Super 6, where they continued their excellent form with Sunday’s big win over Bangladesh.

Opening batter Trisha Gongadi ended Sunday’s game as the tournament’s top run-scorer, hitting 120 across 89 balls faced in her four innings so far.

Left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma has been a consistent threat with the ball, taking extraordinary combined figures of 9/23 across her 12 tournament overs to be tied as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker.

AUSTRALIA’S PATH TO QUALIFICATION

Australia dominated in Group D, overcoming Bangladesh, Scotland and Nepal before showing their class with a convincing win over West Indies in the Super 6.

Eleanor Larosa and Caoimhe Bray have led the way with the ball for the Aussies, taking seven wickets apiece, while the top order have been solid throughout the tournament so far.

Australia also came out on top in a final-over thriller against Bangladesh, edging past the latter by a two-wicket margin.

SOUTH AFRICA’S TOURNAMENT SO FAR

The Proteas started off their tournament in impressive fashion with victory over New Zealand and have been in dominant form since then, seeing off Samoa and Nigeria in Group C before hammering Ireland in their first Super 6 game.

Captain and allrounder Kayla Reyneke has been outstanding with the ball, taking nine wickets in her four matches to-date, while keeper Karabo Meso has shown a penchant for destructive middle-order hitting, slamming her runs at a tournament-leading strike rate of 194.11.

As the second round kicks off at the World Cup in Malaysia, we take a look at how the teams are slotted in for this format, and who makes it through to the semifinals.

For the second edition of the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, the group fixtures have been followed by a Super Six stage that will seal the four semifinalists.

Out of the 16 teams that initially started the tournament, 12 have progressed through after finishing in the top three places of the four groups. The remaining sides have been split into two groups of six.

Each team will play two games in the Super Sixes. The fixtures are decided based on where the teams finished in the group stage.

For instance, India, who topped Group A will face Bangladesh and Scotland, who finished second and third respectively in Group D. Meanwhile Australia, who finished atop Group D will play Sri Lanka and West Indies - the second and third finishers in Group A. Together, the six make up Group 1 of the Super Six. Group 2 has been set up in similar fashion with top three finishers from Group B and Group C of the first round.

The 12 teams also carry forward the points they picked up from the group stage fixtures, but only the points collected from matches involving teams that also progressed. So South Africa, who share Group 2 with Nigeria and New Zealand, take four points into the Super Six stage from their wins against those two teams in the group stages. But South Africa's two points from their win over Samoa, who finished fourth in Group C and were eliminated, are not counted in the Super Six stage.

At the end of two fixtures for each team, the top two sides from the two Super Six groups will proceed to the semifinals.

The ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup semifinals will be played on 31st January, while the final is scheduled for the 2nd of February at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur.

On the first day, Australia cruised to a commanding 7-wicket victory over the West Indies in Bangi after bowling them out for just 53 runs. Meanwhile, South Africa faced Ireland in a rain-shortened encounter but extended their unbeaten streak by chasing a modest target of 36 in just 6.1 overs, securing a win by 7 wickets.

Here’s a detailed roundup of all the action from Day 1 of the Super Six stage in Malaysia.

AUSTRALIA v WEST INDIES, MATCH CENTRE

Australia continued their unbeaten run in Bangi as they moved one step closer to the semifinals with a dominant performance, while it was a must-win game that slipped away for the West Indies.

After winning the toss, Australia opted to field and immediately applied pressure, reducing the West Indies to 16-3 by the end of the powerplay. The West Indies batters struggled to settle as Australia kept striking at regular intervals, eventually bowling them out for just 53 runs in 16.3 overs.

Eleanor Larosa, Caoimhe Bray, and Tegan Williamson were the standout bowlers, each taking two wickets. Eleanor Larosa was named Player of the Match for her brilliant bowling performance, finishing with figures of 2/6.

Australia's chase was swift and efficient. Despite a brief rain delay, they comfortably reached the target in 10.5 overs, with skipper Lucy Hamilton leading the way with 28 runs off 29 balls.

This victory brought Australia closer to a spot in the semifinals, while the West Indies find themselves in trouble, sitting at the bottom of Super Six Group 1.

SOUTH AFRICA v IRELAND, MATCH CENTRE

South Africa maintained their unbeaten streak with a dominant performance against Ireland in a rain-affected encounter, which was reduced to 10 overs.

After winning the toss, Ireland opted to bat but found themselves under immediate pressure as South Africa’s bowlers struck regularly, preventing any batter from settling.

Ireland were bowled out for a mere 35 runs, with Monalisa Legodi and Kayla Reyneke delivering standout performances, taking four and three wickets respectively. Nthabiseng Nini and Fay Cowling rounded off the attack with a wicket each.

South Africa comfortably chased down the target in just 6.1 overs, losing only three wickets in the process. Simone Lourens contributed 14 runs off 12 balls, but it was captain Kayla Reyneke who top-scored with 16 runs off 17 balls.

Monalisa Legodi was named Player of the Match for her match-changing bowling performance, taking incredible figures of 4/4 from just 2 overs.

With this victory, South Africa sit firmly at the top of Super Six Group 2 with 6 points, while Ireland remain at the bottom with just one point.

Captain, Kayla Reyneke, was equally impactful, returning figures of 3-2 in just under two overs. Their combined efforts saw Ireland bowled out for 35 runs.

Reyneke also led with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 16 off 17 balls, supported by Simoné Lourens, who contributed 14 runs. South Africa comfortably chased down the target, losing only three wickets.

Reflecting on her standout performance, Legodi said: “I really enjoyed my spell today. The ball was coming out well, and I focused on hitting my areas and executing my plans. I was in a good rhythm and backed myself to deliver for the team. It helps when the team around you is buzzing with energy and keeping the atmosphere positive.

South Africa U19 Women are set to take on Ireland and USA in the Super Six stage of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Malaysia 2025.

They will kick off the Super Sixes against Ireland U19 Women on Saturday, 25 January at 8:30am SAST, before taking on USA on Tuesday, 28 January (4:30am SAST) at the Borneo Cricket Ground in Sarawak.

This, after an exceptional group-stage performance, where the team topped the Group C log.

The Junior Proteas remain unbeaten and poised to continue their impressive run in the tournament.

The SA team faced both competitors in their World Cup preparations at home, and head coach Dinesha Devnarain is confident that the team is only looking ahead for this crucial next stage.

“The team has been performing exceptionally well both on and off the field throughout the tournament. Our focus remains on ensuring growth and continued improvement in key areas as we advance.

“We’ve faced both Ireland and the USA in preparation for this World Cup, but the conditions and stakes are now different. We’ve been preparing the team to adapt to these challenges and approach each game as though we don’t have the upper hand. Momentum and learnings from the group stages will be crucial, but we know past performances mean little now—it’s about what we can control and how we execute in these matches,” she said.

Devanarain also urged South Africans to rally behind the team as they look to create their history.

“This team, like the 2023 squad before them, aims to inspire every young boy and girl to pick up a bat and ball. Beyond winning matches and World Cups, these players are invested in what their success means for South Africa holistically. We’ve felt the support all the way in Malaysia, and it means so much to the team. To everyone back home, please continue backing these girls. While nothing in life is guaranteed, with your hope and faith, we truly believe we can achieve anything,” Devnarain concluded.

On the final day of group stage, four teams were in action in Kuala Lumpur.

Hosts Malaysia's hopes of progression were drowsed after they failed to beat West Indies in a must-win encounter which allowed West Indies to lock their spot for the Super Six stage.

In the second encounter of the day, India took on Sri Lanka in Group A. The defending champions managed to ease past Sri Lanka by 60 runs to ensure their unbeaten run in the tournament.

West Indies beat Malaysia by 53 runs

MALAYSIA v WEST INDIES, MATCH CENTRE

The West Indies are moving on, qualifying for the Super Sixes as they pick up their first World Cup win.

In what was a win-and-in scenario for both sides, the Caribbean outfit held their nerve to take care of hosts Malaysia by 53 runs in Kuala Lumpur, finishing third in Group A.

Malaysia made a strong account of themselves early, with an energetic fielding display that kept the West Indies top order in check. They were held to 37-1 at the 10-over mark, but West Indies managed to raise the tempo as the innings continued to unfold.

Opener Asabi Callender led the way with 30 off 42, before being beaten with a beautiful ball from Nur Izzatul Syafiqa.

The batting side were assisted by the 27 runs in extras Malaysia conceded. But the hosts fought valiantly, taking seven wickets to restrict West Indies to 112-7 at the end of the 20 overs.

Malaysia got off to a promising start with the bat, held together by captain Nur Dania Syuhada's presence at the crease. But when she departed for 12 off 17 balls, the line-up collapsed.

The hosts were all out for 59 off 18 overs, thanks to some strong bowling from West Indies skipper Samara Ramnath who took 4/6 from her four overs.

Malaysia will hold their heads high after showing improvement throughout the tournament.

They'll now prepare to play Nepal in a 4th Place Play-off match tomorrow.

The West Indies move forward and will play Australia this saturday in their first Super Sixes match.

India beat Sri Lanka by 60 runs

INDIA v SRI LANKA, MATCH CENTRE

Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first, but India struck early, reducing them to 26-5 by the end of the powerplay. However, inclement weather interrupted the game with India at 17/2 off 4.2 overs. After the delay, India reached 48-3 at the 10-over mark.

Sri Lanka's bowlers regrouped in the second half, claiming six quick wickets, and India managed to add 70 runs in the final 10 overs, setting a target of 119. Trisha Gongadi top-scored for India with 49 off 44 balls, just missing a half-century. Pramudi Methsara, Limansa Thilakaratne, and Aseni Thalagune each took two wickets as India lost nine wickets in their innings.

In reply, India’s bowlers were sharp from the start, reducing Sri Lanka to 26/5 by the end of the powerplay, pacers Shabnam and Joshitha VJ leading the charge with two wickets each.

India spinners joined the party after the powerplay, getting three more scalps to leave Sri Lanka languishing at 39/8 at the midway mark.

With the target out of sight, Aseni Thalagune and Pramudi Methsara offered resistance with the willow and ensured that the Island nation weren't bowled out in the contest. Both sides are into Super Six stage, with Sri Lanka all set to feature against Scotland while India face-off against Bangladesh on 26 January, Sunday.

Competing in their first Women’s World Cup at any level in the sport, Nepal’s next generation plot their future, taking on every lesson.

For Nepal's Puja Mahato, the best way to learn is to do.

Already boasting 20 senior international appearances for her country, Mahato channeled her experience to great effect in U19 World Cup qualifying, leading her team to claim the last spot thanks to a stunning final-day win over UAE, leapfrogging their opponents on Net Run Rate.

A win over Pakistan followed at the U19 Asia Cup, and while a victory in the tournament group stage has not followed, Mahato is the first to appreciate how important the experience can be for her team and country, as Nepal continue to build their reputation in the international game.

"I think we learn a lot from the opposition," Mahato said after a defeat to giants Australia on matchday three.

"We learn a lot because they didn't give up at any cost. We will come back stronger, definitely."

Despite the defeat, Nepal proved to the world they are here to stay.

In the field and with the ball, the side can go head-to-head with the best. A stellar effort from the bowlers almost resulted in a defence of just 73 against Scotland, while their efforts in the field, particularly against the Australians, mean the team will be well-represented in the catalogue of great tournament catches.

Mahato too has earned praise for lifting her side in difficult times from those watching on, though it's her teammates that lead the adulation.

Seventeen-year-old bowler Krishma Gurung, who too starred on Nepal's road to the World Cup, hangs on every word from her skipper.

“She's always been a very inspiring leader for all of us and the way she performed for our country in Qualifiers and the Asia Cup is commendable," Gurung told ICC ahead of the tournament.

“She is very calm and just very supportive. She doesn't make us feel like she's the leader of the team. She's like a friend to us.”

Fellow teammate, Sony Pakhrin, continues: “She shows her emotions and she puts everything on her sleeves, she really shows emotions as a captain.

“I think she's been playing brilliant cricket in the last couple of tournaments and she has been in good touch and she is an allrounder as well. So I think that will be a benefit to the team."

COPYING CAPTAIN COOL

Mahato, asked about her leadership style, says she has taken in lessons by watching Rohit Sharma, fresh off T20 World Cup 2024 triumph, in the hope of becoming a “Captain Cool” of her own.

“I like Rohit Sharma, so I want to become a female version (of) Rohit Sharma," Mahato stated during Nepal's media day at the tournament.

“So that's what I want to be on the field. I just want to enjoy cricket.

“Sometimes I might be angry because not every situation I can be cool. But I want to be Captain Cool like everyone says.

“Whenever our team do something wrong or make a mistake, I always keep pushing them to achieve their goal and push them up.

“When we’re just going on the field or whenever batters are going on the field, I always say just enjoy your cricket, no pressure from my side. Just play according to the ball and according to the situation.”

Events on November 13, 2024, when Nepal claimed the final World Cup ticket, are a glowing endorsement of Mahajo's measure.

Going for just 11 in her four overs, and contributing a vital 21 (18) when the side were also doing Net Run Rate calculations, her work was rewarded with both Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament medals.

“I’ll never forget that day,” Mahato reflects, as 31 million Nepali nationals celebrated another global tournament berth.

“I feel goosebumps because of that day. We just wanted a good net run rate as well for qualifying.

“And, finally we defeated UAE to play at the World Cup. I feel really proud.”

Success for Nepal brings with it nation-wide attention, and Mahato already has a nickname to show for her toil, dubbed the "diamond" of Nepali women's cricket.

The skipper can’t help admit that it builds her confidence.

“It boosts me a lot and it gives me a lot of energy to show my talent.

"So thank you Nepali fans for always supporting me and supporting women's cricket too."

“It is a pleasure for me and a proud feeling as a captain, first ever captain in (Nepal’s) history (at a Women’s World Cup). Even in Nepali they say I'm a history creator, so I feel very proud.”

FINAL OPPORTUNITY

Nepal's next assignment is in Johor where they take on hosts Malaysia in a fourth-place play-off, a final opportunity to take a win home with them.

Though even if the team do not taste victory, Pakhrin understands how significant testing themselves against the best in the world can be for their future.

“I think it's an immense platform for us, for a country like Nepal.

"(It's) special to do it, and I think it feels great to be here. It feels amazing.”

Gurung, who is eager to be a part of cricket in Nepal when they’re even further ahead in stature, sees the country pushing for Full Membership down the line.

"I think we are we all are doing pretty good and I see Nepal playing test cricket in upcoming years.

“We are very hard-working when it comes to cricket, so passionate about it as well. And I think this will lead us to becoming one of the best nations to play cricket.

Australia and South Africa remained unbeaten to wrap up their group stage, while Pakistan was knocked out of the tournament by Ireland.

On Day 4 of the U19 Women's T20 U19 World Cup in Malaysia, the final standings for three of the four groups were determined as multiple teams paved way to the Super Six stage.

Australia emerged triumphant over Nepal after initially being put under pressure by Nepal's bowlers. A flurry of quick runs in the death overs, coupled with a strong bowling performance, saw Australia defeat Nepal by 83 runs to top Group D.

Ireland stunned Pakistan, knocking them out of the tournament, in a rain-affected match. With the game cut short to nine-overs-a-side, Pakistan failed to chase down the target of 73, allowing Ireland to become the third and final team from Group B to qualify for the Super Six Stage.

In Group C, South Africa continued their dominance with a comfortable win over Nigeria. Rain reduced the match to eight-overs-a-side, South Africa set a DLS-adjusted target of 65. Their bowlers restricted Nigeria to just 24, ensuring South Africa topped Group C and remained unbeaten. Nigeria, despite the loss, are also through to the next round.

After winning the toss, Australia chose to bat but were quickly put under pressure by Nepal, who claimed three early wickets within the first three overs.

However, Australia steadied the innings and avoided further losses in the powerplay, finishing it at 33/3.

Caoimhe Bray and Eleanor Larosa formed a crucial 72-run partnership to rebuild Australia's innings.Hasrat Gill and Chloe Ainsworth unleashed a flurry of boundaries in the final three overs, propelling Australia to a total of 139 at the end of their 20 overs.

Australia's bowlers applied early pressure on Nepal's batters, restricting their run flow from the outset. By the 10th over, Nepal had managed only 27 runs for the loss of 2 wickets.Nepal struggled to score quickly, and with Australia taking wickets at regular intervals, no partnerships were formed. Australia won by a commanding 83 runs, topping Group D and remaining unbeaten in their three games.

With their third defeat in as many games, Nepal finished fourth and last in Group D, meaning they will not progress to the Super Six stage.

Ireland won the toss and chose to bat first, reaching 25/1 in 3.1 overs before rain interrupted play.The match was reduced to 9 overs a side.Ireland managd to score 69 of their 9 overs losing 4 wickets. Alice Walsh top scored for Ireland scoring 31 of just 19 balls.Pakistan's DLS adjusted target is 73 to win the match.

Pakistan fell short in their chase of 73, managing only 59 runs in 9 overs while losing 7 wickets. With this win, Ireland secured the necessary points to qualify for the Super Six stage. Meanwhile, Pakistan will head home early, finishing at the bottom of Group B with just 1 point.

South Africa didn't lose a wicket in the powerplay but were kept in check by Nigeria's bowlers, who limited the Proteas to 25/0 at the end of the powerplay. South Africa reached 41/1 in 7.2 overs before rain interrupted play.

Due to rain interruption, the match was reduced to 8 overs per side. South Africa managed to score 49 in their 8 overs, with Simone Lourens top-scoring on 25 off 29 balls. Nigeria's DLS-adjusted target of 65 proved too steep, and South Africa restricted them to 24/8 to secure the win, remaining unbeaten and topping Group C. Seshnie Naidu was named Player of the Match for her two wickets in a single over.

With this victory, South Africa qualifies for the Super Six stage. Despite the loss, Nigeria also progresses to the Super Six stage, finishing second in the group with 3 points.

England, Bangladesh and New Zealand have all sealed their Super Sixes berths with day five wins at the ICC Women's U19 World Cup in Malaysia.

England sensation Davina Perrin has stolen the show in Malaysia, producing a jaw-dropping innings as her side outlasted USA to lock up top spot in Group B.

Bangladesh and Scotland were the other winners in the early window of play, both also ensuring tournament progression.

England has topped Group B with an impressive batting performance against the United States, successfully chasing down 120 in 14.2 overs.

Coming off strong showings in the tournament already, both sides set their sights on remaining unbeaten and claim top spot in the group.

USA showed they're more than capable of matching it with anyone, scoring 119-5 from their 20 overs after being sent in by the English.

Captain-keeper Anika Kolan led the charge with the bat for the United States, anchoring most of the innings to finish unbeaten on 46* off 42 balls.

England orthodox spinner Tilly Corteen-Coleman was in the thick of it, matching a pair of catches with a great ball to remove star opener Disha Dhingra (6 off 10 balls), playing a part in three of their five dismissals. Trudy Johnson (17-2) and Prisha Thanawala (20-2) each took two wickets.

A total of 120 looked like it could be a challenging chase for England, but batting sensation Davina Perrin made immediate inroads and found helpful support from Trudy Johnson.

Highlighted by some huge hitting (watch above), Perrin blasted 74 off 45 deliveries to lay strong foundations. She holed out with just two runs required, allowing Johnson (44* off 39) and captain Abigale Norgrove (1* off 1) to finish the job inside 15 overs.

England has again proved they're a force to be reckoned with in Malaysia.

BANGLADESH OUTLASTS SCOTLAND IN GROUP D CONTEST

Bangladesh is nestled underneath Australia, sealing second spot in Group D after a win over the Scots.

They managed 121-9 from their 20 overs, batting first against Scotland, and ended up winning by 18 runs.

Captain Sumaiya Akter came up with the goods down the order to ensure her side had something to defend, top-scoring for Bangladesh with 29* off 36 deliveries. Sumaiya was supported by Afia Ashima Era (21 off 19) and Juairiya Ferdous (20 off 32), who smashed an impressive six early in the innings (watch above).

Nayma Sheikh was impressive, taking 15-2 off her four overs.

Scotland were brave in their chase, led by Pippa Sproul's 43 off 41 balls, but couldn't quite get over the line. Captain Niamh Sheikh chipped in with 22 off 32.

The Scots finished 103/8 from their 20 overs and now will wait to find out if they remain in third spot in Group D. They will progress to the Super Sixes if Nepal fails to beat Australia.

NEW ZEALAND PREVAILS AGAINST SPIRITED SAMOA

New Zealand are on the board and into the Super Sixes, picking up their first win of the World Cup.

The Kiwis sealed a 67-run win with a clinical bowling display that had Samoa all out for 40 in just under 15 overs.

Tournament newcomers Samoa made an impressive start in the field against the more fancied New Zealand. Both NZ openers were removed cheaply, before the side fell to 12-3 early on, attempting to set a big total in Sarawak.

Olive Lefaga Lemoe created history, taking Samoa's first ever ICC Women's U19 World Cup wicket (watch above), removing New Zealand star Kate Irwin caught-and-bowled for 0 off 3 balls.

Kiwi Eve Wolland was a steady hand amid a chaotic batting innings for New Zealand, ensuring a competitive total was set. Wolland's 48 from 43 and Anika Todd's contribution of 27 off 19 helped the side score 107-9 off 17 overs, in a match shortened by a rain delay.

Samoa couldn't keep pace with the bat, all out for 40 off 14.2 overs.

Sri Lanka overcame West Indies in the opening encounter on day four of the ICC Women's U19 World Cup 2025, before India followed suit with a win over hosts Malaysia.

Sri Lanka picked up a second straight dominant win at the ICC Women's T20 U19 World Cup 2025. This helped them overtake India on the points table, but India didn't take long to regain the top spot as they secured a second successive win while also maintaining a net run rate advantage over Sri Lanka.

INDIA EXCEL WITH BALL YET AGAIN BEFORE SEALING A MODEST CHASE

The defending champions won the toss and elected to bowl yet again in the U19 World Cup 2025, seeking to make most of the overcast conditions. Seamer Joshitha VJ soon backed her skipper's call trapping Malaysia's opener Nuni LBW for a duck.

A run out off a no-ball ended Nur Aliya's stay at the crease, before Aayushi Shukla's double-strike in the fifth over got Malaysia to four down with only 13 runs on the board.

Vaishnavi Sharma continued the left-arm spin dominance, getting rid of Malaysia skipper Nur Dania Syuhada (1) and bowling Nuriman (2) off her first seven balls. Vaishnavi continued to menace the hosts as she went on to register the tournament's first hat-trick in her final over, to finish with bowling figures of 5/5. Malaysia were bowled out for 31.

Indian openers G. Trisha and Kamalini G. helped India secure the chase within three overs with all wickets intact.

SRI LANKA'S HISTORIC EFFORT WITH THE BAT SETS UP EMPHATIC WORLD CUP WIN

The Sri Lankans mean business at the ICC Women's U19 World Cup as they powered to an 81-run win over the West Indies in Kuala Lumpur set up by a historic effort with the bat.

Sri Lanka's Sumudu Nisansala hits a huge six to ignite batting innings against the West Indies in Kuala Lumpur.

Sri Lanka took down their own record, posting the biggest total of the tournament so far. Coming off scoring 162 to set up a win over hosts Malaysia on Monday, Sri Lanka smashed 166-5 in Kuala Lumpur against a West Indies side desperate to keep their tournament hopes alive.

Those big-swinging efforts were matched by their work in the field, tearing right through the West Indies batting lineup to have them all out for 85 just inside 20 overs.

Helped in part by some missed opportunities by the West Indies in the field, the Sri Lankans clinically made their way to 79-1 at the mid-point of their batting innings, having won the toss and opting to set the score.

Openers Sanjana Kavindi (38 off 36) and Sumudu Nisansala (19 off 22 balls) put on 54 runs in under seven overs for the first wicket to help set things up, highlighted by Sumudu's huge six over midwicket (watch above).

The clean hitting continued after the 10-over mark as well, led by the valuable contributions of captain Manudi Nanayakkara (37 off 31) and Dahami Sanethma (31 off 25).

Tricky left-armer Selena Ross was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with 25-2 from her four overs, while Jahzara Claxton's dismissal of Hiruni Kumari was also a highlight (watch below).

Nthabiseng Nini emerged as the standout performer, earning the title of "chief destroyer" from commentators and fans alike for her exceptional bowling display.

Nini’s spell of 3-4 not only dismantled the opposition but also earned her the Player of the Match accolade.

Reflecting on her performance, Nini said: “My performance in today's game feels really special. What worked best for me was keeping it simple and applying what I’ve prepared for in practice.

“The motivation from our management—reminding us to treat "Every ball as an event" - played a significant role in my performance today.”

After winning the toss, South Africa elected to field, delivering a disciplined bowling effort, to restrict Samoa to a mere 16 runs all out.

Nini led the charge with her three wickets, while Seshnie Naidu bowled a remarkable spell, taking 2-0.

Fay Cowling and Kayla Reyneke were equally effective, each claiming two wickets in their two overs and the collective effort from the bowling unit left Samoa with no room to build momentum.

The chase was a formality for the South African openers, who confidently reached the target in under two overs, sealing a dominant victory and boosting their position in the tournament.

ENGLAND v PAKISTAN

England won the toss in Johor and chose to bowl, immediately putting Pakistan under pressure. Amruthaa Surenkumar struck early, claiming three quick wickets, leaving Pakistan unable to recover. Tilly Corteen-Coleman, Olivia Brinsden, and Eve O'Neill each took two wickets, helping bowl out Pakistan for just 66 runs in 18.5 overs.

England comfortably chased down the target in 9.2 overs, despite efforts from Pakistan bowlers Mahnoor Zeb and Fatima Khan to apply pressure. However, the modest target proved too small to defend. Katie Jones was named Player of the Match for her top score of 20 off 16 balls and her brilliant glovework behind the stumps.

SOUTH AFRICA v SAMOA

After a delayed start to the match, South Africa won the toss and opted to bowl, delivering a sensational performance. They dismantled Samoa's batting lineup, bowling them out for just 16 runs in 9.1 overs. Nthabiseng Nini starred with the ball, claiming three wickets while conceding only 4 runs. Fay Cowling, Seshnie Naidu, and Kayla Reyneke each contributed with two wickets in a commanding display of bowling.

South Africa cruised to an effortless victory in the chase, scoring 17 runs in just 1.4 overs to secure the win and claim two points, moving to the top of group C. Nthabiseng Nini, for her impressive three-wicket haul, was named Player of the Match.

SCOTLAND v NEPAL

After opting to bat first, Nepal struggled against the relentless Scottish bowling attack. Maisie Maceira delivered a stunning performance, claiming a five-wicket haul, while Amelie Baldie and Nayma Sheikh chipped in with two wickets each. As a result, Nepal were bowled out for just 73 runs in 18.5 overs. Skipper Puja Mahato was the top scorer for Nepal, managing 27 runs off 43 deliveries.

The Women's U19 World Cup in Malaysia produced three stunning matches on Monday in the early window on day three.

 - USA have made a major statement, dominating Ireland by nine wickets to announce themselves at the ICC Women's U19 World Cup.

 - Australia have joined the United States in the winners list as the day three action continues in Malaysia.

 - But the story so far is Nigeria's maiden win at their first-ever Women's U19 World Cup campaign.

USA STUN IRELAND IN DOMINANT NINE-WICKET WIN

USA have announced themselves as a World Cup force after stunning Ireland in Johor, winning by nine wickets and drastically improving their net run rate position.

The toss was about the only thing that didn't go USA's way, producing a masterclass in all three disciplines to cruise to victory after Ireland selected to bat first.

The Irish finished all out for 74 off 17.4 overs, as USA produced a stunning performance in the field.

Four bowlers took multiple wickets for the United States, led by Isani Vaghela's 10-3 off three overs and Ritu Singh's 8-2 off three overs, which included a jaw-dropping off-breaker (watch above). Vaghela's efforts with the ball earned her Player of the Match honours.

Ireland had no answer in the field, as Disha Dhingra (46 off 33 balls) and Chetna Reddy Pagydyala (23* off 25) put on 75 for the first wicket partnership. Dhingra was bowled trying to find the boundary with just one more run required, leaving Vaghela (4* off 1) to finish off the job in 9.4 overs.

USA move to the top of group B for the time being, with England to meet Pakistan later on Monday.

AUSTRALIA HOLD ON TO COMPLETE NAIL-BITING WIN OVER BANGLADESH

The Aussies have made it two from two in Malaysia, after edging out Bangladesh in a cliff-hanger.

Australia sent their rivals in, to immediate effect, striking early and often to once again parade their dangerous and varied attack.

Star left-armer Eleanor Larosa (19-2 off 4 overs) broke through for two wickets in her first over, following on from her fine form in their tournament opener on Saturday. Tegan Williamson (12-2 off 4) and Caoimhe Bray (18-2 off 4) chipped in admirably to help restrict Bangladesh to 91-9 from their 20 overs.

But it was far from a perfect performance from the Australians, who recorded five missed chances in the field and made tough work of the run chase.

After cruising to 50-1, a middle-order batting collapse brought the Bangladeshis rigth back into the contest. The Aussies fell to 86-8 midway through the 18th over, still needing six more runs for the win.

Ella Briscoe (11* off 22) and Williamson (3* off 3) held their nerve to get Australia over the line with four balls to spare.

Australia now top group D and have all but secured tournament progression.

NIGERIA SECURE HISTORIC MAIDEN WORLD CUP WIN

Nigeria have stunned New Zealand to claim victory in their first-ever completed ICC Women's U19 World Cup game.

Making their ICC Women's U19 World Cup debut, the Nigerians were left to wait for an opportunity after their contest with Samoa on Saturday was abandoned due to the rain.

Wet weather again threatened proceedings in Sarawak, but the African nation made the most of their chances once it was confirmed there would be play, albeit a reduced contest of 13 overs each.

Nigeria scored 65 for six batting first, before producing an energetic display in the field that continued to add pressure on New Zealand's run chase.

The Kiwis were 57 for five, needing nine runs, with one over to go, and tight bowling from Lilian Ude got them over the line, finishing two runs shy of Nigeria's total.
