With less than 100 days to go until Betway SA20 Season 4, the franchise coaches have shared their thoughts on how their respective squads shape up.

The aftermath of the highly entertaining and competitive seven-hour auction has settled, with teams looking ahead to the next task, which starts on 26 December 2025.

Legendary Proteas fast bowler Dale Steyn, a two-time Betway SA20 champion who knows all about what it takes to compile a successful squad, sat down with Robin Peterson (MI Cape Town), Kumar Sangakkara (Paarl Royals), Sourav Ganguly (Pretoria Capitals) and Russell Domingo (Sunrisers Eastern Cape) for insight on their respective squads.

Reigning champions, MI Cape Town, are well-positioned for a strong title defence in Season 4. The Newlands-based side managed to reclaim stalwarts such as Rassie van der Dussen and Reeza Hendricks to restore the successful Season 3 top-order, which includes Betway SA20 leading run-scorer Ryan Rickelton. Promising young seamer Tristan Luus also rejoins MI Cape Town, while experienced wrist-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi is an exciting addition.

“That (retention) was a big part of our strategy,” Peterson said. “We couldn't believe our luck when we were getting a lot of them back. Continuity is so important in franchise cricket.

“We're just thrilled that we're getting a lot of them back. A lot of them are leaders within our dressing room to be honest. They don't only play well on the cricket field, it's what they add outside of the cricket that makes a big difference.”

The Pretoria Capitals adopted a contrasting strategy by overhauling their entire squad and armed with the biggest purse of R32.5 million, managed to land marquee signings such as Betway SA20 Rising Stars Dewald Brevis and Connor Esterhuizen while building an experienced pace attack that includes Proteas seamers Lungi Ngidi, Lizaad Williams and Codi Yusuf along with England duo Craig Overton and Saqib Mahmood.

“We came in with a fresh slate and we wanted the best domestic players. That’s experience gained from IPL auctions,” former India captain Ganguly said. “We were very keen on the bowling department because it's not very easy bowling at Centurion.

“We wanted to have bowling options, we emphasised on the fast bowling. We have some great players … Brevis at R16.5 million … we hope he handles the pressure well.”

The beauty of Betway SA20 is the unique conditions at each venue, with distinct challenges posed in almost every game. Paarl Royals’ home ground, Boland Park, in particular, is almost subcontinental-like with its surface favouring the spinners and skillful seamers such as West Indies wrist spinner Gudakesh Motie and former Sunrisers Eastern Cape stalwart Ottneil Baartman.

“We look to be spin dominant at home, and we've got the ability with the allrounders in our top seven, plus the spinners that we have as specialists to be able to do that job for us,” Sangakkara said.

“I think Baartman suits our conditions really well, and he's able to play from home as well. Eshan Malinga is very good in conditions that are slow and low.”

Two-time champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape bid farewell to their former captain Aiden Markram at the auction, but managed to secure a suitable replacement in Quinton de Kock, along with maintaining their trust in homegrown Eastern Cape talent with the acquisition of in-form Proteas batter Matthew Breetzke, the “Uitenhague Express” Anrich Nortje and resigning of Jordan Hermann.

“We snuck in with one of the best players South Africa’s ever had in Quinton de Kock,” Domingo said. “We’re ecstatic to have Quinton. And then to also get Jordan back.

“We've tried to maintain the squad as we had, because we've been successful over the last few years, winning two trophies and getting to a final, so we tried to keep the nucleus of the players together.

“He (Anrich) also lives around the corner. If we can get him firing, bowling at 145 clicks, he's a handful.

“If you go to St. George's Park, the people sort of know the players, and they know where they live, and they see them in the shopping centre, and they walk past them on the beach. So, that's the pretty cool thing (about the Sunrisers).”

Steyn believes the Durban’s Super Giants have acquired an “incredible player” in Proteas T20 captain Markram and could potentially form a devastating partnership with the “phenomenal” Heinrich Klaasen and New Zealander Devon Conway holding it all together.

Steyn is also excited to see teenage seamer Kwena Maphaka in the more seamer-friendly conditions of Kingsmead in Season 4.

South Africa’s emerging young talent has Steyn brimming with enthusiasm and he feels that Joburg Super Kings could unleash a few players that could take Betway SA20 Season 4 by storm after coach Stephen Fleming went on a scouting mission with a three-day camp before the auction.

“JSK has a few players that not many would have heard of before,” Steyn said. “Steve Stolk played SAU19 and Janco Smit and Neil Timmers.

“I feel these guys are not household names just yet, but showing the influence of someone like Albie Morkel who is on the JSK coaching staff, and he would certainly have been in Flem’s ears about these future stars.”

Season 4 of Betway SA20 will start on 26 December 2025 when defending Champions, MI Cape Town host Durban's Super Giants at Newlands.

Dewald Brevis and the Pretoria Capitals were always destined to cross paths.

The 22-year-old wunderkid’s passion for the game was ignited on the Centurion grass banks, playing with his brother, and supporting his heroes in sky blue.

The path may have been a winding one via MI Cape Town and Newlands, but after three seasons, and a record-breaking R16.5 million auction deal, Brevis will now head home to play in front of his people.

“You always reflect and I think it was a special three years I had with MI. We've had our ups, and we had our downs, and it was amazing what we did in the last year. I'll always remember that,” Brevis told Betway SA20.

“But this is a new chapter for me. To be with Pretoria, I'm super excited. It is my hometown.

“I know Supersport Park (Centurion) very well. It's very close to my heart, that ground. That's where me and my brother, we grew up watching cricket, running around the field, playing next to the field. So, to be able to be there, I'm really excited.”

Brevis, 22, was the fulcrum of a bidding war between the Capitals and Joburg Super Kings at last week’s thrilling Betway SA20 auction in Johannesburg.

Capitals head coach Sourav Ganguly was determined to edge out his JSK counterpart and former international rival Stephen Fleming for Brevis’ multi-skilled T20 services.

The pair comfortably went past Durban’s Super Giants’ record R14 million bid for Aiden Markram, which had only 12 minutes earlier smashed Tristan Stubbs’ R9.2 million mark from the Season 1 auction.

But Brevis is determined not to let the magnitude of the record price tag affect him.

“No, not at all, I don’t think I will change. I'll remain the same. I'm not going to change who I am as a person,” he said.

“I'm just playing to enjoy it, playing for God, and I think just always to have fun and to enjoy it, to play with a smile.”

'MAKE MEMORIES AND HAVE FUN'

Brevis is looking forward to meeting up with his new teammates, and believes the Capitals have the quality to go all the way after missing out on the playoffs the last two seasons.

“I can't wait to see the team, get together with them and just make memories and have fun.

“I think it's great. It's great to have Lungs (Lungi Ngidi) there. I think we've had a lot of time we spent together.

“It started in Bangladesh, so we've got good memories. Lizzie (Lizaad Williams), a lot of our local guys, I'm so happy for Connor (Esterhuizen) as well. He's a great player. He'll do great for us.

"If you look at all the overseas, I think we've got a good balanced team, strong batting line-up, power-hitters, guys that would love Supersport Park. If you look at (Sherfane) Rutherford and Andre Russell.

“So yes, I think it's great. It's a great all-round team. I'm very excited to just see how the boys go and how they enjoy playing there because it's a beautiful place to bat and to play cricket.”

The Capitals fans will certainly be streaming into Centurion - the venue for the most Betway SA20 Catch A R2million winners - to get a glimpse of their new hero and hopefully grab a hold of one of Brevis’ sixes on the grass banks when the first home match gets underway on December 27 against Joburg Super Kings.

Following Tuesday's Betway SA20 auction, the six franchises snapped up several Hollywoodbets Dolphins stars for the competition starting on 26 December.

There was drama aplenty during the auction that saw players from across the country fetch top prices for the fourth edition of the SA20.

From a Dolphins perspective, many of their top players were sold to the various franchises around the country with a handful being bought by Durban's Super Giants.

DSG has revamped their squad and have lost a few of their Dolphins’ stars but have acquired the services of Marques Ackerman, Eathan Bosch and Andile Simelane for the tournament.

Of the former DSG players Prenelan Subrayen was picked up by the Joburg Super Kings and will call the Wanderers home for the competition.

The defending champions MI Cape Town won the bid for Dolphins’ seamer Tristan Luus while the also acquired the services of Dolphins allrounder Jason Smith.

One of the big surprises was Keshav Maharaj leaving Durban for the Pretoria Capitals.

Maharaj, along with the young Bayanda Majola will join Maharaj in the nation's capital.

Also moving to the Pretoria Capitals is Dolphins opening batter Bryce Parsons who picked up a significant fee in the auction.

There are three Dolphins stars in the mix at the Paarl Royals.

David Miller was retained by the Royals while Ottneil Baartman shifts from the Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Nqobani Mokoena gets his first SA20 contract.

Markram fetched a staggering R14 million at the auction and will be a critical part of DSG's squad heading into the new season starting on 26 December.

Along with the Proteas T20 captain, DSG picked some strong local flavour with the likes of all-rounders Andile Simelane and Eathan Bosch joining the ranks for the new season.

The Super Giants had to fight off the Pretoria Capitals for Bosch while Simelane moves to Durban from Gqeberha.

Local Dolphins batter Marques Ackerman will also call Kingsmead home for the competition while Proteas test star David Bedingham has also been snapped up by DSG.

Exciting young seamer Kwena Maphaka will also shift to the East Coast for the tournament along with another Proteas seamer in Gerald Coetzee.

The pair will offer some much-needed pace to the DSG attack.

DSG also picked up former Joburg Super Kings and New Zealand batter Devon Conway who will add firepower and experience at the top of the order.

After joining DSG last season Tony de Zorzi returns to Durban for this seasons SA20 while Lance Klusener strengthened his all-rounder stocks with Dayaan Galliem's arrival at Kingsmead.

With a void left after the departure of Keshav Maharaj and Prenelan Subrayen, DSG welcome Bangladesh left-arm spinner Taijul Islam to the squad.

Young Stellenbosch cricketer Gysbert Wege was the next player picked up by DSG as they continued to strengthen their squad with young blood.

SEASON 4 SQUAD REQUIREMENTS

For Season 4 all teams must have 19 players in total in their registered squad.

League Commissioner expects high bidding wars for South Africa’s top talent

Betway SA20 League Commissioner Graeme Smith is expecting the R10 million glass ceiling to be shattered at the anticipated Season 4 Player Auction to be held on Tuesday, 9 September in Johannesburg.

A total of R131 million (US$7.39 million) is available to fill the 84 slots remaining for the franchises to complete their 19-player squads.

Two-time champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape still hold the record for the biggest auction purchase of Proteas Men’s batter Tristan Stubbs for R9.2 million in Season 1.

Smith believes this will be challenged when renowned auctioneer Richard Madley wields his gavel on proceedings.

“I think there's going to be a lot of attention on a few players,” Smith said in a media briefing on Friday.

“It's going to be interesting to see how the teams and franchises go about building their squads.

“I think they understand their conditions, their home conditions and the South African player piece in particular, a lot more than in Season 1.

“When you start looking at the first two or three sets that are coming up, there's some really exciting players that are going to be bid for. So, I think, absolutely, R10 million could be broken for the first time.”

It is not only high-profile South African players along with the overseas internationals that could benefit from the Season 4 auction.

Betway SA20 has also introduced a new Under-23 category - replacing the previous Rookie system- which could potentially be career-changing for an entire generation of young South African cricketers.

Each franchise has been mandated to select at least two Under-23 players in their roster.

“It's always about keeping the League as equally competitive as possible, putting the standard of cricket at the highest level, attracting the best international players to be alongside the best South African players and then looking at where we can tweak and improve the system for youngsters,” Smith said.

“I think this year for us we've moved away from the Rookie player and gone for the Under-23 players and the reason for that is that we felt that we didn't want to have a turnover of a young player every year.

“We wanted them to be able to be picked up young and then developed in the system over a three-year period as well. Hopefully, that will create some consistency for youngsters; to allow them to grow and build and hopefully start playing and contributing over this cycle.”

Smith was confident that Betway SA20 has managed to attract another list of high-quality players heading into the Season 4, despite facing a window clash with the high-profile Ashes test series between Australia and England this season.

“For us, FTPs and other challenges have always been something that we've worked with, but our franchises have always managed to attract outstanding players. I think you can’t just look at the auction list and the quality that's gone in there.

“Also look at some of the pre-signed international names that are on the list. Sometimes you lose with the Ashes, but you gain in the England white-ball squad or the West Indian players.

“For the first time, we're going to be seeing Sunil Narine and Andre Russell. There's Jos Buttler. You look at just the pre-signed Trent Boult, Rashid Khan and Nicholas Pooran as some examples.

“There's quality already there, and I think it will be beefed up even more in the auction. I think there's a lot of options for teams. There are some really good cricketers and I'm excited to see what they put together.”

The Pretoria Capitals have the largest purse of R32.5 million (US$1.83 million) and are ready to build a new and exciting squad after revitalising their coaching staff with legendary former India captain Sourav Ganguly taking over the role of head coach.

He will be relying on the local knowledge of former Proteas captain and Betway SA20 commentator Shaun Pollock, who will be fulfilling the role of Capitals assistant coach for Season 4.

Durban’s Super Giants have the next biggest purse of R29.5 million (US$1.66 million).

The Kingsmead-based franchise has a settled coaching staff, having retained Lance Klusener and Allan Donald for the upcoming season.

Klusener will look to form a squad that already boasts the formidable talents of former England T20 World Cup-winning captain Jos Buttler, West Indies T20 World Cup winner Sunil Narine, former Proteas master blaster Heinrich Klaasen and Afghanistan spin sensation Noor Ahmad.

Joburg Super Kings will be eager to make a big play at the auction with R21.5 million (US$1.21 million) in their purse.

Captain Faf du Plessis will once again play a prominent role after being retained alongside the pre-signed Englishmen James Vince and Richard Gleeson, West Indian Akeal Hosein and Proteas middle-order batter Donovan Ferreira.

Two-time champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape have been savvy operators at previous auctions and still boast the record auction purchase of Tristan Stubbs for R9.2 million.

Stubbs has been retained for Season 4 alongside Betway SA20 Season MVP Marco Jansen.

There will also be new acquisitions, including Afghanistan teen mystery spinner Allah Ghazanfar, New Zealand fast bowler Adam Milne, and experienced England international Jonny Bairstow.

This has left the Sunrisers Eastern Cape with a purse of R21.5 million (US$1.21 million) to build a squad capable of reclaiming the title after finishing runners-up to MI Cape Town last season.

Paarl Royals have R14.5 million (US$0.82 million) to spend as they seek to push for a first-ever finals appearance after three consecutive Playoff finishes.

The Royals have remained steadfast to their youth policy with the retention of Season 3 top run-scorer Lhuan-dre Pretorius alongside stalwarts David Miller, Bjorn Fortuin, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Sikandar Raza and Rubin Hermann.

Champions MI Cape Town have R11.5 million (US$0.65 million) after reinvesting heavily into the core of the Season 3-winning squad.

Captain Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, George Linde, Corbin Bosch and Trent Boult have all been retained with West Indies dynamo Nicholas Pooran, adding a new dynamism to the Newlands-based outfit.

Each of the six franchises will also be required to select a minimum of two Under-23 players in their 19-player squads, a new player regulation replacing the Rookie Draft selections from the previous two auctions.

Sourav Ganguly has been appointed head coach of Pretoria Capitals, marking the former India captain's first venture into coaching, South Africa's SA20 franchise said.

The 53-year-old succeeds former England batter Jonathan Trott, while former South Africa allrounder Shaun Pollock takes on the role of assistant coach.

"The Prince is all set to bring a royal flair to the Capitals camp! We are ecstatic to announce Sourav Ganguly as our new head coach," Pretoria Capitals posted on social media on Sunday.

Ganguly, who retired from international cricket in 2008, transitioned from his playing career to cricket administration, serving as president of the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India from 2019 to 2022.

The former left-handed batter also previously served as a mentor for Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Capitals.

The BCCI does not allow active players to sign for franchise-based leagues outside the country in a bid to protect the prestige of IPL, which attracts many of the world's top cricketers.

Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town has been announced as the destination for the Betway SA20 Season 4 final, with Kingsmead, Centurion and the Wanderers hosting key playoff matches of the competition, which starts on 26 December 2025. Tickets for the final and playoffs will go on sale to the general public on 10 October.

Durban will stage a playoff match for the first time in Betway SA20 history, giving the east coast fans one more opportunity to experience incredible cricket and entertainment when the two best teams of the competition battle it out during Qualifier 1 on Wednesday, 21 January.

The Highveld will play host to two crunch playoff matches, with Centurion setting the stage for the Eliminator on Thursday, 22 January and the Wanderers serving the decider of the second finalist with Qualifier 2 on Friday, 23 January.

All Betway SA20 Champions have been crowned in front of a capacity crowd, with the three successive finals selling out in record time. Betway SA20 League Commissioner, Graeme Smith, expects similar fanfare for the box office tickets.

“Betway SA20 Season 4 is shaping up to be an incredibly exciting summer of cricket, kicking off on Boxing Day and running through the holiday period,” League Commissioner, Graeme Smith said. “Last year Newlands sold out all five matches at the venue, and with the final taking place on a Sunday, it sets up an incredible afternoon with great weather, entertainment and a lively atmosphere to crown our Season 4 champions.

“Durban will host a playoff for the first time, and we’re hoping this will excite the fans, especially because the two best teams of the competition will be playing in that Qualifier 1. We’re also excited to go back to Centurion and Wanderers on the Thursday and Friday nights. It’s always key to have the venues close together because the matches are a day apart.

"It's always an interesting challenge for us to get the scheduling of the playoff matches done and done well. Especially after an exciting Group Match stage that finishes two days before the first Playoff match. I am looking forward to seeing who will be competing.”

The announcement of the venues for the final and playoff matches marks the final piece of the Season 4 scheduling puzzle, giving fans around the country ample time to finalise their festive season plans to attend Betway SA20 matches.

With a high demand for tickets, fans can register to be part of the exclusive pre-sales window for all group stage matches as well as the playoffs and final. The pre-sale gives stadium-goers the first access to the best seats at the best prices before tickets go on sale to the general public.

Pre-sale registrations close at midnight (SAST) on Monday, 15 September. 

“The fans have been at the heart of our success over the past three seasons,” Smith added. “I think with the league taking place during the majority of the holiday season, we will see a lot of interest around the country.”

The next major milestone will be the Season 4 player auction on 9 September, where the six franchises will finalise their 19-player squads. The blockbuster event promises high-stakes bidding and entertainment, with star Proteas and international players going under the hammer with a maximum of R131 million to be spent. The auction will be live on SuperSport in Sub-Saharan Africa from 1.30pm (SAST), JioHotstar in India from 5pm (IST) and Sky Sports in the UK from 12.30pm (BST).

New player regulation in effect requires Franchises to select a minimum of two U23 players in squad

South Africa’s crop of rising Under-23 stars will be in the spotlight at the Season 4 Betway SA20 Player Auction taking place in Johannesburg on 9 September. For the first time, each of the six franchises will be required to select a minimum of two Under-23 players in their 19-player squads, a new player regulation in the place of the Rookie Draft selections from the previous two auctions.

The regulation was introduced to give the selected players continuity within their squads, with their contract terms in line with all other auction signings and at a market value determined at the auction.

Under-23 players entering the auction will be looking to follow in the footsteps of Season 3 Rising Star Dewald Brevis and former rising stars like Marco Jansen, Tristan Stubbs, and Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who have all seized their moment by making a significant impact on the League.

Brevis was one of the standout performers in Betway SA20 Season 3, where he played a leading role in MI Cape Town annexing their first championship title. The 22-year-old has since transferred this form to the international arena, highlighted by his record-breaking 125 not out off just 56 balls in the 2nd T20I against Australia in Darwin.

Jansen was the Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s first purchase back at the inaugural auction for R6.1 million - the second highest SA20 price ever - back in 2022.

Since those early days, the versatile allrounder has soared to become the highest all-time wicket-taker in the League, accumulating 47 wickets at an impressive average of 19.38.

Stubbs, another notable success story, was also integral to the Sunrisers' achievements. Acquired for a record-breaking R9.2 million, Stubbs has justified this investment by amassing 723 runs at an average of 32.86 with a strike rate of 140.11.

He also showed off his versatility by taking on the wicket-keeping responsibilities for the past two seasons and has also since graduated to being an integral part of the Proteas’ teams across all three formats.

Meanwhile, Pretorius, who entered the League as a raw talent, burst onto the scene in Season 3 with a stellar performance that saw him soar to the top of the run-scoring charts, amassing 397 runs at an average of 33.08 and a strike rate of 166.81.

The 19-year-old's aggressive style revealed a maturity beyond his years, as he hit 16 sixes and 47 boundaries in just 12 matches, leading to his award as Batter of the Season and his swift promotion to the Proteas setup.

Brevis will headline the list of Under-23 players entering the auction alongside fellow Proteas Kwena Maphaka and Andile Simelane.

Maphaka has showcased his development during the Australian T20I series when he became the youngest bowler from a Full Member country to take a four-wicket haul in the first T20I against Australia in Darwin.

The 19-year-old has tasted Betway SA20 action before with the Paarl Royals and will be eager to continue this journey.

Simelane has been part of the Sunrisers Eastern Cape squad for the past two seasons and will be on top of the list when the allrounders go under the hammer.

Heading into the fourth season, the next wave of young talent is now poised to shine in South Africa’s premier T20 competition.

The six franchises will have a maximum of R131 million to spend on the 84 slots available to complete their respective 19-player squads, making it the biggest Betway SA20 auction since the inaugural edition in 2022.

The list of pre-signed and retained players announced by the teams boasts an incredible line-up of Proteas and international players.

Notable internationals such as West Indies legends Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine and England’s World Cup winners Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow will all be on show when the action starts on 26 December 2025.

It also means quality Proteas stars including Aiden Markram, Lungi Ngidi, Dewald Brevis and Kwena Maphaka will be going under the hammer, which promises high stakes bidding entertainment under the guidance of the renowned auctioneer, Richard Madeley.

The biggest spending power belongs to Pretoria Capitals with R32.5 million followed by Durban’s Super Giants R29.5 million.

Two-time champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Joburg Super Kings both have R21.5 million to splurge.

Paarl Royals’ will have R14.5 million in the kitty while defending champions MI Cape Town have R11.5 million to make up their squad.

Previous auction registrations have shown unprecedented demand from around the world, with nearly 600 players signing up for the auction last year. Interested players can register on the SA20 website or here.

The Betway SA20 season 4 auction is set to be a blockbuster event after the six franchises laid down an early squad marker with the announcement of the pre-signed and retained players for the season.

Each of the teams was permitted a maximum of six retained or pre-signed players, comprising a maximum of three South African and three overseas players during the player retention window, which closed on 18 July.

The teams also strategically completed their six wildcard signings, with all the focus now on the remaining slots and the collective maximum purse of R131 million, to be spent on the 84 available slots at the auction on 9 September in Johannesburg. For season 4, a wildcard player could be any overseas player or a South African player who was part of the team’s squad in season 3.

Notable South African players available to be picked up at the auction include Proteas World Test Championship final heroes Aiden Markram, Lungi Ngidi, Wiaan Mulder and Keshav Maharaj, along with top young talent Dewald Brevis and Kwena Maphaka. T20 specialists Quinton de Kock, Anrich Nortje and Tabraiz Shamsi are also available.

Betway SA20 League Commissioner Graeme Smith said: “When the League first drafted its regulations in season 1, we always saw this forthcoming season as an opportunity for a strategic reset, and this is exactly where we envisioned being. There’s now a strong balance between pre-signed and retained international and Proteas players, alongside a significant purse available for the auction,” he said.

“After three seasons, the franchises have developed a good understanding of the South African cricket ecosystem and adopted a distinct strategy which sets the stage for the most exciting auction yet.”

Durban’s Super Giants have focused their energies on securing a high-quality overseas trio in West Indies T20I legend Sunil Narine, along with England’s Jos Buttler and Afghanistan’s Noor Ahmad, while holding on to megastar Heinrich Klaasen as a wildcard. The KZN outfit will enter the auction with the second-highest available purse of R29,5 million to purchase the 15 remaining players.

Joburg Super Kings have retained the experience of captain Faf du Plessis and brought in English duo James Vince and Richard Gleeson, and will have the joint third-biggest purse of R21,5 million to spend at the auction.

Defending champions MI Cape Town have opted for the full six-player allowance and wildcard in a bid to consolidate the core of their season 3 championship-winning squad, while bolstering the squad with the addition of West Indies superstar Nicholas Pooran.

With five players and a wildcard locked in, Paarl Royals have maintained their strategic youth investment policy with the retention of teenager and season 3’s Batter of the Season, Lhuan-dre Pretorius. The Royals have also pre-signed Zimbabwe T20I captain Sikandar Raza - the first player from South Africa’s northern neighbours set to participate in Betway SA20.

Pretoria Capitals have opted to do the majority of their business at the auction, securing two players and a wildcard in Windies T20 World Cup winner Andre Russell. The Capitals will head into the auction with the highest purse of R32,5 million available with a total of 16 players required to complete their squad.
