Uganda drew 2-2 in a scrimmage with Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces in Rabat over the weekend in one of two preparatory matches they have scheduled ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations final.
They are also playing a friendly on Wednesday against fellow finalists Gabon as they fine-tune their preparations for their Group C campaign.
The Cranes, who have recalled veteran goalkeeper Denis Onyango from Mamelodi Sundowns, have been in Casablanca for a week already as they get ready for their opening Group C game against Tunisia in Rabat on December 23.
Coach Paul Put Put said he was hoping the Ugandans deliver a tournament performance that matches their hard work.
“They can show themselves to the whole world and maybe change their lives. It would be nice to perform very well because they deserve it,” said the Belgian coach, who took Burkina Faso to the final in the 2012 tournament in South Africa.
He was also pleased with the performance against the Moroccan top flight club.
“We played with courage and mentality. There were positives from the first half as we created chances. I was not happy with the second-half ball situation, but we shall improve in the next few days,” he added.
