Vusumuzi Vilakazi picked up his first point as Chippa United head coach with a 0-0 draw against Magesi at Buffalo City Stadium on Tuesday, November 4.

Vilakazi had replaced Luc Eymael at the helm on October 22 and lost his opening match in charge of the Chilli Boys following a 3-0 defeat to AmaZulu last weekend. The stalemate in East London did little for their prospects as they remain rock-bottom of the standings after 12 games.

Chippa were looking to snap a five-game winless run and three successive defeats which kept them rooted to the foot of the table, while Magesi hoped to put some distance between themselves and the relegation zone after a 3-1 loss to Orbit College left them only three points better off in 14th place.

The visitors posed a greater threat in the first half as Lehlogonolo Mokone steered a header wide of the target from Kgomotso Mosadi's free-kick on 24 minutes before the latter tested Stanley Nwabali with a snapshot from inside the box three minutes later.

Chippa's best chance saw Ruzaigh Gamildien fire wide in the closing stages of the half after being picked out by Sirgio Kammies inside the area, while back up the other end Wonderboy Makhubu got on the end of John Mokone's cross but sent his header off target.

Nwabali was called into action early in the second half to save Makhubu's header from Edmore Chirambadare's cross before the woodwork came to Dikwena Tsa Meetse's rescue when Azola Matrose saw his shot come back off the post.

Both teams huffed and puffed as the second half wore on, but neither could make the breakthrough and they had to settle for a share of the spoils.

Polokwane City bounced back to winning ways in the Betway Premiership when they edged out AmaZulu FC 1-0 in a match played at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Tuesday night.

The victory elevated Rise and Shine to the fifth spot in the league standings after recording their fifth win of the season. The Limpopo side's next match is against champions Mamelodi Sundowns in Rustenburg on 23 November.

Usuthu, on the other hand, slipped down to the sixth spot in the standings after registering their third defeat of the campaign. The KwaZulu-Natal giants will be determined to return to winning ways when they host Siwelele FC on 22 November.

Having won their last two matches, Usuthu were unsurprisingly oozing with confidence and got off to a bright start as they searched for an early goal, but it was Rise and Shine, who broke the deadlock in the 15th minute.

Goalkeeper Darren Johnson could not hold on to a corner-kick which was played into his area and Bulelani Nikani was there to hit the back of the net from close range. Polokwane then held on to their slender lead and they were 1-0 up at the interval.

Rise and Shine did not sit back and defend their lead after the restart. Johnson was a busy man as he was called into the action in the 52nd minute and 78th minute, denying Lebohang Nkaki and Sibusiso Tshabalala, respectively.

Coach Arthur Zwane introduced Wandile Dube and Andiswa Sithole with 11 minutes left as AmaZulu looked to snatch a late equalising goal. However, Polokwane stood firm at the back in the dying minutes of the match and they claimed a 1-0 win on the night.

In what was a tense battle at the Peter Mokaba Stadium this week, Sekhukhune United and Richards Bay could not be separated in their latest Betway Premiership assignment with the game ending in a 1-1 draw in Polokwane.

Following a first-half that was largely dominated by Sekhukhune, goals on either side by Ronaldo Maarman and Gabadinho Mhango in the second-half saw the game end in a stalemate.

Babina Noko started the game on the front foot and had their first sight at goal in the 13th minute after Keletso Makgalwa saw his left-footed strike saved by Richards Bay goalkeeper Ian Otieno.

Sekhukhune dominated on the ball during the first 15 minutes but were often let down at the final hurdle, as Richards Bay held on.

The Natal Rich Boyz did little to trouble the Sekhukhune defensive unit throughout the first 45, with Gabadinho Mhango looking to make things happen for his side. Nevertheless, with neither side able to break the deadlock, the game ended 0-0 at the break.

It was much of the same for Sekhukhune United after the restart, while Richards Bay continued to play under the cosh leading up to the 60th minute mark.

Babina Noko’s pressure eventually paid off with around 20 minutes left to play after substitute Ronaldo Maarman added his name to the scoresheet following a swift attacking move into the Natal Rich Boyz area.

Richards Bay then drew level in the 77th minute after Mhango made the most of a rare attack late on in the half as he guided the ball home from close range following a set-up by Lwandile Mabuya.

Both sides were unable to convert their goal scoring opportunities as the game ended in a draw at the popular stadium.

Kaizer Chiefs pulled level with Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the Betway Premiership with a 4-1 win over Orbit College, courtesy of Mduduzi Shabalala, at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday.

Shabalala bagged two goals and an assist, taking his scoring tally in the league to three goals for the season.

AmaKhosi remained unbeaten in the club's last six Betway Premiership fixtures and the last five fixtures in all competitions. They sit level with Sundowns on 22 points and occupy second place on the standings due to goal difference.

The Mswenko boys could not extend their winning streak in the league to three games and dropped from 11th to 12th on the table with 13 points.

Chiefs drew first blood in the fourth minute as Thabiso Monyane cut the ball back from the byline, bypassing Etiosa Ighodaro and finding Mduduzi Shabalala for his second league goal this season.

Etiosa Ighodaro had a headed opportunity in the 11th minute, but could not find the target.

In the 35th minute, Chiefs were denied a penalty as Mfundo Vilakazi went down just inside the box.

The hosts had the last opportunity of the half in stoppage time. Shabalala’s free kick looking for Aden McCarthy at the back post traveled just over the defender’s head.

Ighodaro got behind the Orbit defence in the 48th minute and had just the goalkeeper to beat but poked his effort over the bar.

Shabalala cut the ball back for Monyane in the box, but his effort was deflected wide in the 50th minute.

In the 61st minute, Sibongiseni Mthethwa’s shot deflected off of Yanga Madiba into the path of Ighodaro. The striker’s attempt was saved but the rebound bounced for Shabalala, who poked home his second of the game.

Substitute Ayanda Lukhele pulled on back for the visitors in the 70th minute, capitalising on a perfectly placed cross and rising above McCarthy to head home his second goal of the season.

Shabalala found Vilakazi with space on the right of the box in the 73rd minute. The 19-year-old took one touch before curling the ball into the top left corner for his first league goal of the season.

In the 79th minute, Petersen was forced to make a triple save, denying the Mswenko boys another goal.

Substitute Flávio Silva bagged his fourth goal of the season in five appearances for AmaKhosi in the 89th minute, putting the result beyond any doubt.

Chiefs will face Magesi Seshego Stadium in Polokwane while Orbit will play against Stellenbosch at Olympia Park in Rustenburg on 22 November when the Betway Premiership resumes after the international break.

Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to ramp up the pressure on the Betway Premiership's top three in midweek, after Mamelodi Sundowns, Sekhukhune United and Orlando Pirates all dropped points last weekend.

Amakhosi could climb up to second place if they beat newly-promoted Orbit College at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday.

The Glamour Boys arrested a four-match winless run after they edged Durban City 1-0 on Friday to momentarily go above Pirates, who reclaimed third position with a 1-1 draw against the Brazilians the following day.

The Mswenko Boyz recorded back-to-back wins for the first time as they downed Magesi 3-1 on Saturday, to pull four points clear of the danger zone in 13th spot.

Sundowns will target a return to winning ways when they welcome TS Galaxy to the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Wednesday.

Bafana ba Style have only won two of their last five games following the stalemate with the Buccaneers, although they held onto top spot after Babina Noko slipped up once again.

To balance out a heavy fixture schedule during the 2025/26 campaign, Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou could look to rotate his squad once more as the Buccaneers prepare to do battle against Golden Arrows at the King Zwelithini in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday.

As it stands, Pirates are third on the Betway Premiership table on 19 points following their 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns this past Saturday.

The Soweto giants have played nine games so far, two less than log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, and trail the summit by three points.

While Pirates recorded four wins and one draw in their last five games, Golden Arrows are in seventh spot, with three wins and two losses to their name in their previous handful of league fixtures.

WHAT WAS SAID

After being questioned by his much talked about rotation policy at the club, Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou recently expressed that he puts full trust in his players to perform.

With Ouaddou expected to make changes to his team yet again, the Pirates mentor believes that the sheer workload calls for player rotations.

“I have faith in all my players. I think you have seen how I’ve been working since the beginning of this season,” Ouaddou said.

“I tried to rotate the players because we’re playing many competitions, so I have faith in all my players,” Ouaddou said.

"I gave a chance to some players [against Sundowns]; the idea is to all the time have some freshness – because you see we are playing every three days, with high intensity, very important games, and at the same time, as an educator, not a coach, I want to protect the physical integrity of my players because I need them all season.”

The Rockets made a good recovery after losing their opening two fixtures of the season, embarking on a five-match unbeaten run to climb into the top eight.

However, back-to-back defeats against Magesi and Pirates halted their momentum before Adnan Beganovic's side returned to winning ways by beating Stellenbosch 2-0 on 2 November.

Galaxy are in a three-way tie with Golden Arrows (7th) and Polokwane City (8th) on 16 points in sixth position and trail Sundowns by six with a game in hand.

WHAT WAS SAID

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso: "Despite people say, 'you're a defensive coach', that's bull****. So what I mean, it's not true. We wanted to win the match and at halftime I was very hard on my players in terms of mindset, in terms of attitude because for this match we had an expression all week.

"Nobody kills an attitude, and at halftime I said is that the attitude nobody is able to kill, the one we had when we conceded a goal because I was a little bit of 'what is in your mind guys' after you suffer a goal.

"Do you want to be brave or do you want to feel fear because if you want to feel fear, you won't play at the level, you have to play. If you're brave you can go for the match, to win it and I think they were brave, they fought.

"What I saw from my players was character, so I go along with what you said, I think we saw character. Could we have done better? Yes. Do we believe we will do better? Yes, but probably two of the best teams [in South Africa] were on the pitch."

Mamelodi Sundowns - Peter Shalulile has been biding his time patiently as he continues to play second fiddle to Iqraam Rayners at Chloorkop. But the Namibian hitman is still as reliable as ever after scoring his third goal of the season against the Sea Robbers, having become the all-time leading scorer in South Africa with his winner against Stellenbosch on 30 August.

TS Galaxy - Seluleko Mahlambi has really stepped up since being promoted to the first team at the start of the season. The 21-year-old winger opened his account with a brace against Siwelele and scored his sixth goal in seven games in the 2-0 win over the Maroons last time out. He is now just goal behind Junior Dion in the race for the Golden Boot.

Kaizer Chiefs claimed their first Betway Premiership win since 30 August on Friday, beating Durban City 1-0 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

AmaKhosi struck in the 88th minute through substitute Flávio Silva, who has bagged three goals in four league appearances since joining the Soweto giants.

Despite suffering a loss and three consecutive draws in between league wins, Chiefs sit fourth on the standings with 19 points from 10 games, and are level on points with their archrivals, Orlando Pirates.

Despite a slow start to the league campaign, Orbit College have claimed three wins, one draw and one loss in the club's last five league games.

The Mswenko boys have won two on the trot in the Betway Premiership after defeating Magesi 3-1 at Olympia Park on Saturday. They sit 11th on the standings with 13 points from 11 games.

They will be looking to extend their winning streak as they face Chiefs for the first time in the top flight.

WHAT WAS SAID

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze admitted that his side were not at their best against Durban City last weekend.

“It's true that we were not at our best but it’s a league, it’s a marathon you need to win even when we’re not at our best,” said Kaze.

“Because I remember a few weeks ago there were some games [where] we had like 70 per cent possession, 20 shots on target [and] we didn’t win the game. It’s those games like today, you’re not at our best and you need to win to get the three points.”

Kaizer Chiefs - Mfundo Vilakazi has started Chief’s last three games after returning from the FIFA U-20 World Cup. The young star is yet to score in the league this season and will be looking to open his account on Tuesday.

Orbit College - Monnapule Saleng has begun to find his form following his loan move from Orlando Pirates, scoring twice and assisting twice in nine league games. The 27-year-old will be looking to push his side to a statement win.

This will be the first league meeting between Kaizer Chiefs and Orbit College.

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou had no hesitation in fielding inexperienced Cemran Dansin in the key Betway Premiership fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns at the weekend and reveled in the cracking goal the 20-year-old scored in the 1-1 draw.

It was only a second start for Dansin, who made his full debut for Pirates in last Tuesday’s Carling Knockout quarterfinal win over Magesi, and while he looked to struggle in a busy midfield battle, he more than made up for it with a volleyed goal from outside the area that levelled the scores and saw Pirates take home a precious point.

“Since I came to the country eight or nine months ago, I’ve discovered that there is such, such big talent in South Africa,” is how Ouaddou began his explanation.

“And when you notice, and when you have the eyes, to see some young talent in the country, they deserve to be encouraged, to be pushed to build themselves.

“I know sometimes some coaches are scared to give a chance to young players because they're scared if they lose, they can be sacked. But as an ex-football player, I got the chance to play at the age of 18 years old,” he continued.

On Dansin, Ouaddou added: “So I have seen a fantastic potential in that player, since the pre-season when we decided to bring him to Spain with us, and he showed us fantastic qualities during the friendly games.

“I worked for seven years in development in France and you have to be careful not to burn this kind of potential. So you have to bring them on step by step. It's why you have seen that I give him sometimes 15, 20, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, just to make him comfortable.

“And I thought that it was the right moment for him against one of the best teams in the continent and to throw him in the bath. We needed to put him and to give him experience. And I think it was a fantastic opportunity for him to show against Mamelodi Sundowns what he's able to do.”

Dansin was taken off after an hour.

“Of course, I'll agree with you that he still needs work. Of course, if he were perfect, we would say that he's a Messi, but he still needs to work, and we will improve him to be one of the best players in South Africa,” the Pirates coach added.

 

Kaizer Chiefs were the big winners in matchday 11 of the Betway Premiership, which saw Mamelodi Sundowns, Sekhukhune United and Orlando Pirates drop points.

The action started on Friday with Flavio Silva's late goal earning Chiefs a 1-0 victory over Durban City in eThekwini and, as a result, Amakhosi are placed fourth in the league standings - three points behind leaders, Sundowns.

In Tshwane, Sundowns let a lead slip away when they drew 1-1 with Pirates on Saturday as Cemran Dansin cancelled out Peter Shalulile's opener. Pirates are placed third in the standings, level on points with Chiefs, but Bucs have a game in hand.

Sekhukhune, on the other hand, remained third in the standings after succumbing to a 1-0 defeat to Siwelele FC, who secured all three points thanks to 20-year-old Siviwe Magidigidi's second-half goal in Bloemfontein on Friday.

Meanwhile, AmaZulu, who are placed fifth in the standings, also closed in on the top four teams after thrashing rock-bottom Chippa United 3-0 in East London, where Hendrick Ekstein (brace) and Athini Maqokolo hit the back of the net on Saturday.

In Rustenburg, Monnapule Saleng produced a Man of the Match performance to help Orbit College make history by winning back-to-back top-flight matches for the first time, when they claimed a 3-1 victory over Magesi FC.

Two matches were played on Sunday, with Stellenbosch FC's woes continuing after they suffered a 2-0 defeat to TS Galaxy, who found the back of the net through Selukelo Mahlambi and Sanele Barns (own-goal) in Mbombela.

The last game of the weekend saw Golden Arrows ease into the eight after hammering Marumo Gallants 4-0, in a match which saw Thokozani Khumalo coming off the bench to score twice and provide an assist in Durban.

Golden Arrows claimed a comfortable 4-0 victory over 10-man Marumo Gallants in the Betway Premiership match, which was played at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday evening.

The victory elevated Abafana Bes'thende into the top eight as they are now placed seventh in the standings. The KwaZulu-Natal side will be looking to make it two wins in a row when they play host to Orlando Pirates on Wednesday in another league game.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa, on the other hand, remained outside the top eight as they are occupying the 10th spot in the standings. Coach Alexandre Laffite's side will be in action in eThekwini once again on Wednesday when they lock horns with Durban City.

Having found the back of the net in each of his last three league matches, Sede Junior Dion was the man to watch out for in the Abafana Bes'thende side and the Ivorian centre forward managed to continue his impressive goalscoring form against Bahlabane Ba Ntwa

Jerome Karelse set up Dion, who made no mistake as the 31-year-old hitman hit the back of the net to hand Arrows the lead, as he haunted his former club, having had two spells with Gallants. The score was 1-0 to Arrows at the interval, thanks to league top scorer Dion's seventh goal of the season.

Coach Manqoba Mngqithi introduced Thokozani Khumalo 12 minutes into the second-half. Khumalo provided the assist when 19-year-old Isaac Cisse scored with 15 minutes left on the clock and it was the Ivorian teenager's second goal in as many league matches.

Khumalo was proving to be an inspired substitute as the former Mkhambathi FC star grabbed a late brace. The attacker beat goalkeeper Washington Arubi in the 87th minute, before scoring again in stoppage time to seal Arrows' 4-0 victory over Gallants, with Sabelo Radebe providing the assist.

Gallants finished the game with 10 players after Simo Mbhele, who was playing against his former club, was shown a red card in the 89th minute after receiving his second yellow card of the game, having been introduced with nine minutes left.

TS Galaxy ended their two-match losing streak in the Betway Premiership by recording a morale boosting 2-0 win against Stellenbosch at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

In what was a frustrating outing for the Western Cape outfit, an early effort by Seluleko Mahlambi coupled with an own goal by Sanele Barns in the second-half saw Stellenbosch leave Mbombela empty-handed.

The Rockets pushed for an opener during the embryonic stages of the first half and came close to breaking the deadlock through Puso Dithejane, who let off a left-footed attempt inside the area.

Dithejane did well to breach the Stellies backline moments after his initial attempt and managed to assist Mahlambi with the cross into the danger zone before the attacker headed the ball home to give Galaxy the lead in the seventh minute.

Devin Titus and Lehlogonolo Mojela attempted to make things happen on a couple of occasions throughout the first 45 but their efforts proved to be futile as Galaxy held on to preserve their lead at the break.

Stellenbosch took the direct route in trying to get on the scoresheet after the restart, after which Barns had a go at the Galaxy goalkeeper from outside the area following a corner. With Barns’ effort going wide, the Cape Winelands side battled to make the most of their chances thereafter.

It was more of the same for Stellenbosch as the hour-mark approached and created a couple of scoring chances through the likes of Khomotjo Lekoloane and Mojela. As they held most of the ball midway through the second-half.

Despite their dominance on the ball, Galaxy had their lead increased in the 62nd minute after Barns turned the ball into his own net as Stellies’ misery began to pile up.

Stellenbosch piled on the pressure during the closing quarter of the match but were often let down at the final hurdle. Holding on, the Rockets kicked into game management mode with Stellies’ bossing the possession count.

Nonetheless, Galaxy did enough to see the game out with maximum points in the bag along with a clean sheet to their name.

Mamelodi Sundowns will be hoping to clear a backlog of injuries ahead of Wednesday’s Betway Premiership clash at home to TS Galaxy, which coach Miguel Cardoso said had retarded their chances against Orlando Pirates on Saturday.

Cardoso said his options for the top-of-the-table clash against Pirates at Loftus Versfeld, which ended in a 1-1 draw, had been restricted by a litany of injuries, especially among his attackers.

Iqraam Rayners was returning from injury and so was only used as a substitute for the last 12 minutes on Saturday.

“Unfortunately, he just trained two days, so he could not play for more than 20 minutes at a sustainable level for the demands of the game,” explained Cardoso.

“Lebo Mothiba, unfortunately, got injured this week. Themba Zwane is injured. (Thapelo) Morena could not play because he's injured.

“(Miguel) Reisinho was suspended, with the red card (against Marumo Gallants). Kutlwano (Letlhaku) has also an injury on the foot.

“So we didn't have a lot of power in terms of attack. So there's a moment (against Pirates) that we felt, okay, now we can go more, but then there weren’t any players to put into the attack,” added Cardoso.

For the midweek clash with Galaxy, Sundowns will have Teboho Mokoena back from suspension. An accumulation of yellow cards meant he missed the Pirates clash with a one-game ban.

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou felt his side should have come away with all three points from Saturday’s Betway Premiership ‘classico’ against champions Mamelodi Sundowns, which ended in a 1-1 stalemate at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

Pirates fought back after conceding a 20th minute goal to Peter Shalulile to end Sundowns’ 18-match winning streak at home in the league.

Camren Dansin’s spectacular 35th minute equaliser left Pirates still three points behind Sundowns in the league standings but with two games in hand.

“We started slowly, Sundowns put us in trouble in terms of building, they managed to find the free player in the middle,” said Ouaddou in his synopsis of the game.

”We had a problem with (Marcelo) Allende, Nuno Santos, (Bathusi) Aubaas in the middle, because they were trying to overload, which we had prepared for, but I thought that we were not aggressive enough to prevent them from the building.

“But we made some changes in order to be more dangerous in the transitions. And it worked because we created the most chances and I was so happy about the second half, the way that we played and how we respected the game plan.

“To be honest, I think it's a game that we should have won regarding the number of chances that we have created. And today, I think, to be honest, it should be a victory for Orlando Pirates,” Ouaddou said.

“But let's go home with this point. Let's not be too tough on our boys. They did well. And let's go to fight for the next games that we had in hand and let's go to take the lead of this league,” he added.

A third successive draw between Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates showed there was little to chose between the two sides this season, said the champions’ coach Miguel Cardoso.

Pirates came from behind for a third time this season to hold Sundowns to a 1-1 draw in their Betway Premiership clash at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

The two sides also drew 1-1 in each of their MTN8 semifinals in August and look as if the are going to go head-to-head in a closely contested season.

“ I think the result is quite fair, considering what we saw, the more dominant Sundowns, and Pirates playing as we had seen from them in their previous matches,” said Cardoso after the game.

“Third match, third draw, same result. It means that the teams are very equal in the moment. They play differently, but they have their capacities and we'll have for sure a competition this season.

“I remember I predicted at the PSL launch event that this championship will have a different story,” added Cardoso.

Pirates been runners-up to Sundowns in the last three campaigns – 12 points behind last season in a 28-game campaign but a record-breaking 23 points adrift in 2024 and in 2023 Sundowns finished 16 points clear of the Buccaneers.

“It will be much more equal until the end,” Sundowns’ coach predicted of this season.

Cardoso admitted Saturday’s encounter would not go down as a classic.

“It was not the best football played by both teams, but these kinds of matches are like that. I think the match, basically, was what I predicted in terms of its pattern, played with a lot of emotion,” he added.

Chippa United’s woes in the Betway Premiership continued on Saturday evening when they were handed a 3-0 beating by AmaZulu FC at the Buffalo City Stadium.

The Chilli Boys suffered a third successive loss – and extended their winless run to six matches – across all competitions, after Usuthu were inspired to victory by a brace of goals from Hendrick Ekstein.

Chippa remained rooted to the foot of the Premiership log with just six points from 11 matches (three points from the safety of 14th place, currently occupied by Stellenbosch FC), while AmaZulu are fifth on 18 points from 10 matches – just four points off the pace of leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, having played a game less than the table toppers.

Chippa had an early chance to take the lead when they were awarded a soft penalty, but Goodman Mosele’s strike from the spot was well saved by AmaZulu goalkeeper Darren Johnson.

The hosts went on to dominate possession and territory for most of the first half, though they struggled to find a way through the visiting team’s defence.

Chippa’s patience had already begun to wane by the half-hour mark, when defender Idumba Fasika let fly from long range and forced a sharp save from Johnson to keep the score line blank.

AmaZulu then claimed the lead against the run of play in the 42nd minute, with Nkosikhona Radebe turning defence into attack down the right flank before squaring for Hendrick Ekstein, who scored with a composed side-footed finish for 1-0.

A goal up at the break, Usuthu needed just eight minutes of the second half to double their advantage. Substitute Tebogo Mashigo did great work to hold up the ball in the penalty area before picking out the late run of Athini Maqokolo, who drove to the goal mouth with three defenders around him before passing the ball beyond Stanley Nwabali for 2-0.

Nwabali really should have done more to apply pressure for the second goal, but he then made up for that with two excellent saves to deny Ekstein and Mashigo around the hour mark, keeping the Chilli Boys clinging to life in the match.

However, AmaZulu effectively ended the game as a contest when Ekstein scored from the penalty spot in the 66th minute. Maqokolo earned the spot kick with a burst of pace down the left side of the 18-yard area, drawing a clumsy foul from Harold Majadibodu.

The final quarter of the game saw Usuthu throttle down, defend their own box and control the game – with Chippa unable to fashion any clear chances to spark hopes of a comeback.

The teams will return to Betway Premiership action next midweek, with AmaZulu hosting Polokwane City, and Chippa United welcoming Magesi FC – both on the evening of Tuesday 4 November.

Richards Bay took advantage of adverse weather conditions as they battled back from behind to clinch a 1-1 draw with Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

Rise And Shine led 1-0 at the break courtesy of Mokibelo Ramabu's 31st-minute opener, but lightning caused a lengthy delay and the Natal Rich Boyz came out with renewed purpose in the second half.

Gabadinho Mhango eventually equalised from the penalty spot in the 86th minute to take Ronnie Gabriel's side three points clear of the bottom two in 12th place, with Polokwane leapfrogging Durban City into fifth position.

Both teams were targeting a return to winning ways, with City having been beaten 1-0 by Orlando Pirates on October 22, while Richards Bay suffered a 2-1 defeat against Orbit College five days prior.

The hosts just shaved the possession stakes in the first half and they made better use of the ball, creating more than double the amount of chances as did the Natal Rich Boyz.

 

Brian Bwire was called into action first through, when he turned Thabisa Ndelu's shot behind for a corner on 20 minutes following good work from Mhango to pick out the midfielder inside the box.

However, the breakthrough came at the other end 11 minutes later as Ramabu slotted home to make it two goals in three games for Rise And Shine.

The woodwork also came to Ian Otieno's rescue and the Limpopo outfit went into the interval one goal to the good.

The game was then delayed by lightning and it seemed to stymie City's momentum as the visitors started to create much more chances as the second half progressed.

Bwire was required to make two saves and Mfundo Thikazi went close with a strike that flashed over the crossbar on 77 minutes after Mhango and Knox Mutizwa linked up well to set him up.

Richards Bay were presented with a golden opportunity to restore parity when Lundi Mahala was brought down inside the box and Mhango kept his cool to convert the resulting penalty with four minutes left on the clock and earn his team a share of the spoils.

Orbit College recorded back-to-back wins in the Betway Premiership for the first time after they ran out 3-1 victors over Magesi at Olympia Park on Saturday.

The clash in Rustenburg had it all, as Monnapule Saleng opened the scoring from the penalty spot on the stroke of halftime before Thuso Moleleki and Mbulelo Wagaba extended the Mswenko Boyz's lead in the second half.

Katlego Mkhabela was then given his marching orders on 64 minutes and Dikwena tsa Meetse took swift advantage when Edmore Chirambadare reduced the deficit six minutes later.

Pogiso Makhoye's side held on, though, to claim a precious three points as they climbed up to 11th place, four points clear of Magesi, who remain second from bottom in the standings.

Orbit College were looking to build on their 2-1 win over Richards Bay on October 17 which gave them some breathing space to the relegation zone, while John Maduka's side managed to arrest a two-game losing streak with a 2-1 success against TS Galaxy one day later.

The visitors dominated the possession in the first half and also had more attempts at goal, but they only tested Sabelo Nkomo on one occasion after hitting the target on the quarter-hour mark.

 

Moleleki was presented with a chance at the other end four minutes later, only to fire wayward and Saleng also missed the target after cutting inside on 41 minutes.

However, the Orlando Pirates loanee made amends soon afterwards when the hosts were awarded a penalty in added time and he beat Elvis Chipezeze from 12 yards out to register his second goal of the season.

Magesi put early pressure on the opposition after winning a corner in the opening minute of the second half, but it was the Mswenko Boyz who doubled their advantage on 52 minutes through Moleleki.

The midfielder then turned provider as he set up Wagaba nine minutes later to give the top-flight newcomers a three-goal cushion, although they suffered a setback moments later with the dismissal of Mkhabela for a second yellow card.

Dikwena tsa Meetse didn't take long to capitalise on the extra man after Edmore Chirambadare pulled one back on 70 minutes to set up a nervy finish to the game.

The home goal came under threat again a couple of minutes later, but Nkomo was on hand to make the save and ensure there would be no way back for the Limpopo outfit.

Orlando Pirates edged closer to Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the Betway Premiership table thanks to Camren Dansin as the two sides drew 1-1 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Saturday.

The 20-year-old opened his senior account with a beautiful strike to pull the Buccaneers level in just his second start for the club’s first team.

Sundowns stay at the top of the table with 22 points from 11 games, while Pirates moved level with Kaizer Chiefs on points but edge their rivals on goal difference to claim third place with 19 points.

The Brazilians had to make do without Teboho Mokoena and Miguel Reisinho - who were serving suspensions - and Malibongwe Khoza, who is expected to return from an ankle injury soon.

Peter Shalulile kept his spot in the starting 11, while Iqraam Rayners came off the bench having not played since being withdrawn from the Bafana Bafana squad on 7 October due to medical reasons.

Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou opted to leave Bafana Bafana midfielders Patrick Maswanganyi, Thalente Mbatha and Sipho Mbule on the bench in favour of Sihle Nduli, Masindi Nemtajela and Dansin.

The visitors enjoyed the better of the chances in the opening stages, with Evidence Makgopa’s effort from the left of the box sailing narrowly over the bar in the 6th minute.

 

Sundowns had a chance to strike in the 14th minute as Aubrey Modiba found Shalulile open in the box. The striker could not get enough on his header to trouble Sipho Chaine in goal.

Shalulile found the back of the net four minutes later, handing the home side an early lead with his fifth goal of the season in all competitions. Arthur Sales squared the ball for the Namibian international, whose first effort was kept out by Chaine. However, the goalkeeper could not recover in time to block Shalulile’s second attempt, which crept past Seema on the goalline.

Pirates drew level in the 36th minute through Dansin, who bagged his first senior goal in spectacular fashion. Sundowns’ corner clearance fell to the 20-year-old at the edge of the area who hit it first time, producing a rocket of a volley which went in off of the underside of the crossbar.

The Buccaneers squandered a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 50th minute as Lebone Seema found himself one-on-one with Williams, having all the time in the world. The defender attempt to beat Williams at the near post but was denied.

Shalulile came close to a second goal in the 55th minute as Khuliso Mudau slipped him the ball in the box, but Sihle Nduli bravely stepped across to block his effort.

In the 73rd minute, Oswin Appollis broke on the counter after winning the ball in midfield. The winger picked out Tshepang Moremi, who fired a shot from just outsude the area but could not beat Williams.

Both teams are back in Betway Premiership action on Wednesday as Sundowns will return to Loftus to face TS Galaxy, while Pirates will travel to the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium in Durban to face Lamotville Golden Arrows.

Siwelele FC needed a late goal to secure a narrow 1-0 Betway Premiership victory over Sekhukhune United at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium on Friday night.

The victory elevated Siwelele to the 12th spot in the league standings, having 11 points from 11 matches.

Coach Lehlohonolo Seema's side will travel to Cape Town, where they are scheduled to lock horns with Stellenbosch FC in another league game on 5 November.

Babina Noko, on the other hand, remained second in the standings, having accumulated 20 points from 10 matches.

The Limpopo side will be determined to get their bid to win the league title back on track when they play host to Richards Bay on 4 November.

Siwelele got off to a promising start and Siviwe Magidigidi fired the game's first shot on target - forcing goalkeeper Manuel Sapunga into making a smart save in the 10th minute.

However, the two teams then struggled to keep their attempts at goal on target and the score was 0-0 during the halftime break.

With his side struggling upfront after the restart, Eric Tinkler decided to make a double substitution in the 63rd minute.

The Sekhukhune head coach introduced the attack-minded duo of Ronaldo Maarman and Sphiwe Mahlangu as the visitors looked to break the deadlock.

However, it was the hosts who snatched a late winning goal with 16 minutes left on the clock.

SuperSport United academy products combined to hand Siwelele a 1-0 win over Sekhukhune as Aphiwe Baliti set up Siviwe Magidigidi and the South Africa under-20 international netted his third goal of the season.
