The SuperSport MVP Talent Search Show keeps getting tougher as the contestants keep putting in the work.
Absolute F1 host and radio presenter, Kriya Gangiah, led the masterclass this week. Her tests took the contestants by surprise and left them shaken!
ELIMINATION CHALLENGE
This also showed that some of the MVPs don’t watch other sporting codes outside of cricket, football and rugby. The challenge was another wakeup call that they need to broaden their sports knowledge in order to be more desirable and indispensable to the company.
You cannot just wing it. The viewers will know and they will switch off.
The elimination challenge compelled the competitors to think on their feet and to switch their focus from one event to another swiftly. But allowing the contenders to audition using their preferred skill, presenting or commentating, was a master stroke.
Those who stood Kriya’s test headed to Bloemfontein for the Varsity Football final between the University of the Free State and four-time champions, the Tshwane University of Technology.
The likes of Dikeledi Tshabalala, Relebogile Mabawa, Rethabile Moshounyane, and Bongi Mqoqi looked to enjoy the task, although they did admit that this was a tough challenge.
This week the MVPs had to impress our resident judge, Neil Andrews was joined by seasoned sportscaster, the First Lady of Sport, Carol Tshabalala as well as radio, television personality and club DJ, and DJ Warras (Warrick Stock).
Carol’s career in sports broadcasting spans close to three decades, and she brings a global perspective.
The contestants had to take control of a match day pre and post-match duties which included interviews at the Varsity Football final. Some of the contestants sailed through but others struggled.
Carol, Neil and Warras had great pointers for them like not dragging the conversation for too long before involving the guest. And that it is important to listen to the guest which can help the conversation go smoother.
One of the key lessons from this is preparation. Learn who your guest is, including their name and what they do. Write down and think about the kind of questions to prepare for the interview.
RELEBOGILE'S MAGIC
There must be something that Relebogile is doing to make sure that he is always in the top three every week since the challenges started. He is the only MVPs that has achieved this feat. He started at the top in the first week and now he took the bronze medal.
Dikeledi not only made it into the top 10 for the first time but she also took second place.
Anelisa Jaxa commentated his heart out on the Varsity Cup final and this earned him the first place, the gold medal and the coveted R10 000.
Seeing Anelisa tearing up and being so emotional for clinching the No 1 sport was so beautiful. He really put in the work in the challenge and allowed his passion to shine through.
That gold medal means so much to him.
