Seven-time champion Novak Djokovic, who has been out of action for three weeks, will compete in next week's ATP Finals in Turin, the president of the Italian Tennis Federation confirmed on Monday.

After his defeat in the semifinals of the Shanghai Masters 1000 against Valentin Vacherot on October 11, the 38-year-old skipped the Paris Masters, which ended on Sunday.

He is set to return to competition this week in Athens with a second round match against Alejandro Tabilo.

"We have confirmation that Djokovic will be in Turin," federation chief Angelo Binaghi said on Rai Gr Parlamento radio, scotching suggestions that the Serb would withdraw from the event as he did last year.

The ATP Finals is the traditional season-closer bringing together the eight best players of the year.

Djokovic, who first appeared at the event in 2007, currently ranks fourth in the annual rankings.

He has made the semifinal at all four Majors this season and also reached the final of the Miami Open.

In May, he lifted his 100th ATP title in Geneva, becoming the third player in the Open era to achieve that.

Confirmation of Djokovic's participation means that there is only one place left open for the ATP Finals, which will be contested between Felix Auger-Aliassime and Lorenzo Musetti.

They are ranked eighth and ninth respectively in the annual rankings and are separated by 160 points.

Musetti, who, unlike Auger-Aliassime, is playing this week in Athens, can pip the Canadian, who was a finalist in Paris, to the final slot by winning the Greek tournament.

All eyes will be on world No 1 Jannik Sinner and No 2 Carlos Alcaraz when the 2025 ATP Finals returns to Turin.

The world’s two top players will be joined by six others who are vying for top honours in Turin, Italy.

This year’s edition is packed with high-stakes drama, elite talent and legacy-defining moments.

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz will face off in an exhibition match in South Korea in January ahead of the Australian Open, organisers said Monday.

Italy's Sinner usurped his rival from Spain as world No 1 after winning the Paris Masters for the first time on Sunday.

The two best players in men's tennis will meet in the "Hyundai Card Super Match" on January 10 in Incheon, near Seoul.

"For domestic tennis fans it will be the very first opportunity to see the two top-ranked players compete," said a Hyundai press release.

Alcaraz, who has complained about there being too many matches on the ATP Tour, leads their head-to-head record 10-5.

Sinner will defend his Australian Open title in the first Grand Slam of 2026, which begins in Melbourne on January 18.

After losing the Paris Masters final to new world No 1 Jannik Sinner on Sunday, Felix Auger-Aliassime announced he would skip the ATP 250 tournament in Metz, where he could have stamped his ticket to the upcoming ATP Finals.

By reaching the title-decider in Paris, the 25-year-old Canadian moved into the final qualifying berth in the race to the season-ending tournament in Turin.

However, his 6-4 7-6 (7/4) loss to Sinner prevented him from sewing up his spot at the eight-man event as he sits just 160 points ahead of Italy's Lorenzo Musetti in ninth place.

After an early exit in Paris, Musetti decided to enter next week's ATP 250 tournament in Athens, where he could earn up to 250 points, while Auger-Aliassime had intially been scheduled to play in Metz at the same time.

"I won't be going," Auger-Aliassime told reporters in the French capital.

"I've been struggling with a lot of physical issues this week. I'm not going to make the same mistakes I made in the past. My physical condition and health are really my priority, above qualifying."

After a stellar week at La Defense Arena, Auger-Aliassime leapfrogged Musetti in the race to Turin, and in the process also climbed above him in the world rankings as he moved up to eighth.

"If I qualify, great. If not, Lorenzo will deserve his place," added Auger-Aliassime, who could make a second appearance at the ATP Finals.

However, as the pair head into the ATP Finals – running November 9-16 in Turin – defending champion Sinner has a lot more points to defend than the Spaniard, who exited last year's season-ending showpiece at the group stage.

"It's not only in my hands, but I'm of course happy (to be back at No 1)," the 24-year-old said.

"I knew from the beginning of the week that there is this chance... The goal was to go day by day, trying to maximise my potential, which I have done for this week, and I'm extremely happy.

"Now we recharge and hopefully be as ready as possible for Turin."

Sinner had told his pre-tournament press conference in the French capital that it would be "impossible" for him to finish 2025 atop the world rankings.

But now following his maiden Paris Masters title, Sinner now trails Alcaraz by just 1 050 points in the race to Turin, where one of them will be crowned year-end No 1.

"Before every tournament or before every match, I try to put the best performance I can on the court, and then whatever comes, comes," Sinner added.

"In Turin, I'm going to do the same. I watch my side, and I just play the best possible tennis I can, and if it's not gonna be, it's not gonna be."

The 24-year-old's maiden crown in Paris, coupled with incumbent world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz of Spain crashing out early in the tournament, will see Sinner return to the pinnacle of men's tennis when the ATP rankings are updated on Monday.

The Italian first claimed the No 1 ranking in June last year and held it for 65 weeks until he lost the US Open title-match to Alcaraz in September.

Reclaiming top spot from his rival in Paris will taste even sweeter for Sinner after he went down in a remarkable five-set final to Alcaraz at Roland Garros earlier in the season.

"Today is a very, very special day," Sinner said on-court before thanking his team for their work over the season.

"Felix, amazing week, I know you had a lot of pressure... If you keep playing like this I'm sure you're going to win (big titles)."

Despite missing three months at the start of 2025 after twice testing positive for traces of clostebol in March last year, Sinner has now won five titles this season – including the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

Sunday's victory was, however, his first 1000-level title since Shanghai last October.

For Canadian ninth seed Auger-Aliassime, defeat at the last hurdle in the French capital prevented him from sewing up his spot at the ATP Finals later this month.

Auger-Aliassime is, however, favourite to claim the eighth and final berth for the season-ending tournament as his run to the title-match leapfrogged him ahead of Italy's Lorenzo Musetti in the race to Turin.

"It's never easy to lose a final but there's an opponent that I have to congratulate... You push me and all other players to improve," Auger-Aliassime told Sinner.

Despite being unable to add a fourth title to his list of achievements so far this season, the 25-year-old has enjoyed a renaissance in 2025 and cemented his place back among the world's top 10.

"It's been a beautiful year and I'm sure our (his and his team) moment will come," he added.

POWER-HITTING 

In menacing form after dropping only one game in his semifinal win against third seed Alexander Zverev on Saturday, Sinner picked up immediately where he left off as he broke Auger-Aliassime in the opening game to seize the advantage.

The Canadian did not allow himself to be cowed by the second seed's power hitting from the baseline and dug in to force Sinner to serve out the opening set, which he did in typically efficient fashion.

The break point converted by Sinner at the start of the match was the sole one either player managed to fashion in a first set characterised by impeccable serving.

Sinner then forced a couple of break opportunities at the very start of the second frame but Auger-Aliassime rallied to save himself on each occasion with a huge first serve.

Both men were striking the ball cleanly as the number of winners continued to climb.

Auger-Aliassime displayed grit to save three break points in the seventh game as Sinner looked to have finally worn the Montreal-native down with the relentless pace and accuracy of his groundstrokes.

Leading 5-4, Auger-Aliassime made a sudden charge on Sinner's serve, taking the game to deuce before an overcooked forehand and a net-cord, which landed on the wrong side of the court for the Canadian, saw the opportunity to force a decider pass him by as the set rumbled towards a tie-break.

In the breaker, Sinner got ahead at 3-2 and never looked back as he raced to the trophy and the top of the world rankings, sealing both with a blistering backhand down the line on his first championship point.

The Italian raced to remarkable thrashing of reigning champion Zverev at La Defense Arena in just 61 minutes.

Sinner will replace rival Carlos Alcaraz at the top of the rankings with victory over Auger-Aliassime on Sunday.

Canada's Auger-Aliassime reached the second Masters 1000 final of his career by beating in-form Kazakh Alexander Bublik in the first semifinal.

Sinner and Auger-Aliassime have split their four previous meetings, although the world No 2 has won the past two including in this year's US Open semifinals.

"It's always good to play him," Auger-Aliassime said of facing Sinner.

"I feel like he pushes players to be very, very disciplined tactically and to execute their game, you know, almost perfectly in order to win."

Four-time Grand Slam champion Sinner is now on a 25-match winning streak on indoor hard courts.

He is targeting his fifth title of the season after last weekend adding the Vienna Open trophy to his Australian Open, Wimbledon and China Open triumphs from earlier in the year.

Third seed Zverev made a dreadful start Saturday, with his forehand badly misfiring.

Sinner needed just 15 minutes to take a double-break and a 3-0 lead, sealed by a crushing cross-court winner.

Another wild forehand saw Zverev broken for a third successive service game, before Sinner wrapped up a bagel set with an ace.

It was the first time Zverev, who mustered just one winner in the opener, had lost a set to love since the 2023 French Open semifinals against Casper Ruud.

The German showed some resilience in the first game of the second set, though, staving off a break point as he finally got on the board.

But the resistance was short-lived, as Sinner broke in the third game when Zverev ballooned another groundstroke long.

Zverev called for the trainer but his race had long been run.

Sinner completed the demolition when an ailing Zverev dumped another shot into the net.

AUGER-ALIASSIME DOWNS BUBLIK 

Ninth seed Auger-Aliassime clinched a 7-6 (7/3), 6-4 victory as Bublik crumbled from 4-1 up in the second set of his maiden Masters 1000 semifinal.

"It's a pleasure. All finals of Masters 1000s are a dream, but (especially) in Paris, a tournament with so much history and important past champions," said Auger-Aliassime.

Auger-Aliassime climbs above Lorenzo Musetti into the eighth and last qualifying spot for the ATP Finals in Turin later this month.

The 25-year-old can seal his second appearance in the season-ending tournament with victory in Sunday's showpiece match.

Auger-Aliassime fell just short of a Masters title at the 2024 Madrid Open against Andrey Rublev.

Bublik, who made the French Open quarterfinals in Paris earlier this year, can no longer reach the Finals despite an excellent year in which he has won four ATP titles.

A tight first set flew by without a single break-point opportunity, before two weak forehands into the net from Bublik allowed a rock-solid Auger-Aliassime to win the tie-break.

The match burst into life early in the second when Bublik seized a 2-0 lead only to give the break straight back.

He reacted by smashing his racquet, repeatedly, against the court, earning himself a code violation.

Auger-Aliassime swept up some of the racquet remnants with a towel ahead of the next game, to the gratitude of his opponent.

The Canadian presented Bublik with another gift, firing a simple volley well wide as he slipped 3-1 behind.

World number 16 Bublik could not maintain his momentum.

Auger-Aliassime reeled off five successive games against an increasingly forlorn Bublik, taking his first match point with a thumping cross-court forehand.

Jannik Sinner took a step closer to reclaiming the world No 1 ranking with a comfortable victory over Ben Shelton in the Paris Masters quarterfinals on Friday, setting up a clash with reigning champion Alexander Zverev.

The Italian powered to a 6-3, 6-3 win over his fifth-seeded opponent and will next face Zverev, who saved two match points to beat Daniil Medvedev 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7/5), in Saturday's semifinals.

Sinner, looking to take advantage of rival Carlos Alcaraz's shock second-round loss to Cameron Norrie, extended his winning streak to 24 successive matches on indoor hard courts.

Sinner will usurp Alcaraz at the top of the rankings by winning the title at the La Defense Arena.

"At the moment I'm not thinking about the ranking," he said.

"It all depends on how I'm playing. We go day by day, every day you have very difficult challenges coming up."

He has now won seven successive matches against the powerful Shelton since losing their first meeting in Shanghai in 2023.

The four-time Grand Slam champion wrapped up the first set in just 34 minutes, sealing it with a thumping baseline winner to break Shelton's serve for the second time.

A 22nd consecutive win against American opponents appeared nothing more than a formality for Sinner when he moved 3-1 up in the second set.

But Shelton immediately hit back with a break to love before levelling the set to gain a foothold in the match, much to the delight of a packed crowd.

The left-hander's revival did not last long, however, as Sinner broke again in the eighth game.

A deft winner at the net secured a place in his 13th Masters semifinal on his first match point.

Third seed Zverev kept his title defence on track after digging deep in a tense clash with former world No 1 Medvedev.

Medvedev raced through the first set before losing his rhythm in the second as Zverev forced a decider.

The Russian moved to the brink of victory when leading 5-4 in the third as Zverev made a series of unforced errors on his forehand, but Medvedev passed up two opportunities to secure the win.

Zverev took that momentum into the tie-break and ended a run of five successive defeats by Medvedev when his opponent fired long.

BUBLIK REACHES FIRST MASTERS SEMI-FINAL

Earlier, Alexander Bublik battled back to defeat Alex de Minaur and reach the first Masters 1000 semifinal of his career.

The Kazakh, enjoying his best-ever year, edged a dramatic contest 6-7 (5/7), 6-4, 7-5 to set up a last-four meeting with Felix Auger-Aliassime, who saw off Valentin Vacherot in his quarterfinal.

Bublik is still in the race to qualify for next month's ATP Finals in Turin, competing for the eighth and last berth with Lorenzo Musetti and Auger-Aliassime, albeit is more likely to have a chance as an alternate.

"That's definitely an important match but not probably the most important of my life. You never know. We'll see," Bublik said of his clash with Auger-Aliassime.

"He (Vacherot) is so confident and you are kind of scared to be honest," Auger-Aliassime said.

"I had to be so focused from the start and this level of intensity from the first game I brought helped ease me into the match and I played some good tennis."

Jannik Sinner eased past Francisco Cerundolo 7-5, 6-1 at the Paris Masters on Thursday to set up a quarter-final clash with Ben Shelton, while reigning champion Alexander Zverev earned a straight-sets win over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the third round.

A maiden crown in the French capital will return Sinner to number one in the world rankings after current incumbent Carlos Alcaraz suffered a shock early exit at the hands of Cameron Norrie.

The Italian four-time Grand Slam champion is yet to drop a set in the tournament as he hones in on what would be a fifth title of the season.

"Today I felt like first set was very crucial. Francisco is a very talented player it's very difficult to play against him because his level is very high," Sinner said on-court.

"In the second set I raised the level... and I'm very happy to be in the quarter-finals here for the first time."

Sinner edged a close first set, which featured four consecutive breaks, when he pounced on Cerundolo's serve at 6-5 to seize the initiative.

The 24-year-old then immediately stepped up his level in the second set, racing into a 5-1 lead before serving out to book a last-eight meeting with US fifth seed Ben Shelton on Friday.

Shelton beat Russia's Andrey Rublev 7-6 (8/6), 6-3 to reach the last eight.

The victory marked another landmark moment for the 23-year-old this season -- following on from his first 1000-level title, won in Toronto this summer -- as he will make his debut appearance at the season-ending ATP Finals.

"It's an accumulation of a year's work, a lot of ups-and-downs, great results, poor results and having to bounce back," Shelton said of reaching Turin.

The German third seed will next meet an old foe in former world number one Daniil Medvedev, who fought past Lorenzo Sonego of Italy in three sets.

Zverev and Medvedev have met twice before in the Paris Masters, with the now-11th seeded Russian winning on both occasions, including the title-match in 2020.

"Daniil is somebody that I know extremely well and he beats me most of the time. He's a bit like my kryptonite," Zverev admitted.

Earlier, Bublik downed Fritz 7-6 (7/5), 6-2 to set up a last eight meeting with Australian world number six Alex de Minaur.

Despite arguably being in the form of his life in the latter half of 2025, Bublik said it would require a "miracle" for him to win a career-first Masters title in Paris.

"Tennis is very brutal that way, if you have results you're playing your best tennis, if you're not, you're down," the 28-year-old said.

"I have three matches to go, I have to beat the top ten players, maybe Jannik (Sinner) in the final, so that sounds a bit like a miracle."

Bublik's next opponent, De Minaur, eased past Russian 10th seed Karen Khachanov 6-2, 6-2, and in the process cemented his place at next month's ATP Finals in Turin.

Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime reached the quarterfinals as he came from behind for the third time in as many matches in Paris to beat German Daniel Altmaier 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

The ninth seed is one spot outside the last ATP Finals berth, which is currently occupied by Lorenzo Musetti, who lost on Wednesday to fellow Italian Lorenzo Sonego.

That result coupled with an Auger-Aliassime charge to the title-decider in Paris would send the 25-year-old above Musetti in the race to the eight-man showpiece in Turin.

However, before he can think too much about that, Auger-Aliassime must stop the in-form Valentin Vacherot of Monaco.

The Shanghai Masters champion continued his sensational run by ousting Briton Norrie in straight sets in the opening match on centre court.

American fifth seed Ben Shelton beat Russia's Andrey Rublev 7-6 (8/6), 6-3 on Thursday to book his spot in the quarterfinals of the Paris Masters.

The 23-year-old will next face either Argentina's Francisco Cerundolo or former world No 1 Jannik Sinner.

Shelton edged a tight opening set against 12th seed Rublev after nearly an hour on court.

The big-serving Toronto Masters champion then secured the first break of the match in the seventh game of the second set to close in on victory.

That result coupled with an Auger-Alissime run to the title-decider in Paris would send the 25-year-old above Musetti in the race to Turin.

However, before he can think too much about that, Auger-Aliassime must stop the in-form Valentin Vacherot of Monaco.

The Shanghai Masters champion continued his sensational run of form by ousting Carlos Alcaraz's British vanquisher Cameron Norrie in straight sets in the opening match on centre court.

Jannik Sinner began his tilt at a Paris Masters crown which would return him to world No 1 with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Zizou Bergs on Wednesday, while reigning champion Alexander Zverev battled through a lengthy three-setter.

Following the surprise exit of world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz at the round of 32 stage on Tuesday, a maiden crown in the ATP 1000 event in the French capital would return Sinner to the summit of the world rankings.

But the Italian second seed showed no signs of feeling the weight of that pressure in his opening match at La Defense Arena – the top eight seeds received byes through the first round.

Four-time Grand Slam champion Sinner is known for his efficiency on-court and won through against 41st-ranked Belgian Bergs in one hour and 27 minutes without facing a single break point.

The 24-year-old methodically engineered breaks of his own early in both sets to seal his spot in the third round, where he will meet Francisco Cerundolo after the Argentinian earlier bested Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia.

Germany's Zverev battled past Argentine world number 49 Camilo Ugo Carabelli 6-7 (5/7), 6-1, 7-5 to open his title defence.

He will next take on Spanish 15th seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina following his victory over Frenchman Arthur Cazaux.

A hardfought tie-break separated Zverev and Ugo Carabelli in the opening set, before the 28-year-old cruised through the second in 35 minutes.

It then seemed Zverev might follow Alcaraz in crashing out early at La Defense Arena when the third seed fell 1-3 behind in the decider.

But he hit back instantly on his opponent's next service game, before securing the crucial break at 5-5 to keep his title defence alive.

Former world No 1 Daniil Medvedev of Russia was given a walkover to the third round after Grigor Dimitrov withdrew with a shoulder issue.

The 34-year-old Bulgarian's return from the pectoral injury, which forced him to retire when leading eventual champion Sinner two sets to love in the fourth round at Wimbledon in July, unfortunately lasted only one match before his latest fitness set-back.

Cousins Valentin Vacherot and Arthur Rinderknech opened the day's action in a repeat of their Shanghai Masters final from earlier in October.

And just like in China, it was the Monegasque Vacherot who claimed victory in three sets against the Frenchman.

Felix Auger-Aliassime again came from behind to keep intact his chances of reaching the ATP Finals next month in Turin.

This time the Canadian ninth seed ground out a 5-7, 7-6 (7/5), 7-6 (7/4) in over three hours on court against hometown player Alexandre Muller.

Auger-Aliassime is currently ninth in the race to the eight-man season-ending tournament.

Frenchman Nicolas Mahut delivered an emotional farewell to professional tennis after his doubles defeat at the Paris Masters.

Mahut, 43, won five Grand Slam doubles titles in a career spanning 25 years, but he is best known for losing the longest professional tennis match in history against American John Isner at Wimbledon in 2010.

The match lasted 11 hours and five minutes and took place over three days, with the last set alone - eight hours 11 minutes - being long enough to have broken the previous longest-match record.

Mahut bid adieu to the sport on home soil alongside Grigor Dimitrov on Tuesday, losing 6-4, 5-7, 10-4 to Hugo Nys and Edouard Roger-Vasselin.

"Being able to win Grand Slams was for me one of the best memories," an emotional Mahut said after the match.

"That's what I will remember," he said. "Beyond the titles, the trophies that I may have, it's also ultimately everything that happened in order for me to achieve those trophies and victories."

"It's all the doubts, the questioning, the mistakes I made. That is ultimately what makes a career rich and mine is very rich in that regard."

Asked about his record-setting match with Isner, Mahut said: "I now enjoy talking about that match because it was a crazy experience. It brought me a lot as a player and as a man."

World number one Carlos Alcaraz was stunned in his opening match at the Paris Masters on Tuesday as he went down to 31st-ranked Briton Cameron Norrie 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

The six-time Grand Slam champion has never won the Paris Masters in five attempts and now faces losing his place atop the rankings should rival Jannik Sinner win the tournament in the French capital.

Returning from three weeks out of official competition due to an ankle issue, Alcaraz claimed the opening set as he displayed his usual combination of fire and flair.

However, much like his ultimately successful run at the French Open this spring, the Spaniard's level dropped off a cliff mid-match.

This time he was made to pay.

"I'm really disappointed about my level today," Alcaraz told reporters after the loss.

"I had all the ideas clear, all the goals clear but today even in the first set which I won I felt I could do a lot more than I actually did.

"I have to give credit to Cam... He played really well today, a solid match, and I think that was the key."

The mercurial Norrie, who drew his fair share of admiring gasps from the 17,500-capacity centre court at the La Defense Arena, capitalised on his opponent's errors by breaking him twice at crucial times in the second and third sets.

The 30-year-old said the win was "maybe the number one" of his career.

"I've been working really hard this year so it's nice to get a win like this to make it worth it," added the former world number eight.

Jannik Sinner said on Tuesday that he had come to terms with finishing the season behind rival Carlos Alcaraz in the rankings.

The Italian world No 2 lost top spot in the standings when he was fell to the Spaniard in the final of the US Open in September – after having held it for 65 weeks.

"It's impossible (to finish the year at No 1). Honestly, I'm not thinking about this at the moment. It's going to be a goal for next year," Sinner told reporters ahead of his opening match at the Paris Masters.

Trailing the Spaniard by less than 1 000 points, Sinner could theoretically overtake Alcaraz if he wins the Paris Masters and his rival fails to reach the last four.

But he will then have to defend 1 500 points at the season-ending ATP Finals in Turin – which he won in 2024 – whereas his rival was eliminated in the group stage and has few points to lose.

"This year it's not in my hands," Sinner simply added.

He comes into the event in the French capital on good form after winning the Vienna Open on Sunday.

But the long season has taken its toll on the 24-year-old.

He retired after suffering from cramps at the Shanghai Masters earlier in October and experienced problems with his thigh in the Austrian capital.

"It was not the same issue at all (in Vienna)," Sinner revealed.

"I feel like (it) was normal. You know, I played five days in a row. The final was very physical. It can happen."

The four-time Grand Slam champion said he was "not worried physically" ahead of his opening match in Paris on Wednesday against Belgium's Zizou Bergs.

"The body feels good now. A bit tired, of course, playing five matches in a row and coming here is not much time to recover," he said.

"But I'm happy how I'm feeling. I recover every day better."

Former world No 1 Daniil Medvedev kickstarted his campaign at the Paris Masters on Tuesday with a comfortable 6-1, 6-3 win over Spaniard Jaume Munar.

The 2020 Paris Masters champion began briskly on the vast centre court of the event's new La Defense Arena home, claiming the opening set in under half-an-hour.

Eleventh seed Medvedev then secured the crucial break in the sixth game of the second set and served out to set up a second-round meeting with Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov.

Earlier, Canadian ninth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime kept alive his hopes of qualifying for the ATP Finals in Turin with a comeback 6-7 (2/7), 6-3, 6-3 victory over Argentinian Francisco Comesana.

Auger-Aliassime is ninth in the race for the eight-place tournament and needs a deep run in the French capital to make his second career appearance at the season-ending tournament.

The Monegasque wildcard beat Czech 14th seed Jiri Lehecka 6-1, 6-3 in under an hour, and will next meet his cousin Arthur Rinderknech in a repeat of the Shanghai final earlier in October.

Canadian Gabriel Diallo beat Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands 6-3, 6-4 and France's Corentin Moutet fought past American lucky loser Reilly Opelka in three sets.

In the night session, Spanish world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz will play his first match of the tournament when he meets Britain's Cameron Norrie in the round of 32.

Fourth seed Taylor Fritz will round out the day's action against Australian qualifier Aleksandar Vukic.

Cousins Valentin Vacherot and Arthur Rinderknech are set to face each other in the Paris Masters second round on Wednesday following their Shanghai Masters final clash this month.

Vacherot, who defeated Frenchman Rinderknech in Shanghai to become the first player from Monaco to win an ATP title, cruised past 14th seed Jiri Lehecka 6-1 6-3 in the first round in Paris on Tuesday.

"I'm living a fairytale... that's why I'm playing so well, I'm enjoying every second," said Vacherot, who was 204th in the world when he became the lowest-ranked player to win an ATP Masters 1000 tournament.

Rinderknech, a wildcard in the tournament like his cousin, beat Fabian Marozsan 7-6(5) 7-6(4) on Monday to reach the second round.

"This time I am the first one to play and (Vacherot) has to follow suit. I prefer it this way, because it was tiring in Shanghai," Rinderknech said.

Vacherot said he was proud of how Rinderknech had played against Marozsan.

"It was such a tough match against Fabian... I'm just so excited for the crowd, for the family. We're just going to enjoy this match so much, once again," he added.

It is his second triumph in Vienna, where he also lifted the trophy in 2023, and extended his winning run on indoor hard courts to 21 matches going into next week's final Masters 1000 of the year in Paris.

But the top seed had to do it the hard way after falling behind as world No 3 Zverev, who had won four of seven previous meetings, secured the only break of the first set to take the upper hand.

"It was such a difficult start in this final for me," said Sinner.

"I went a break down, had some chances in the first set but couldn't use them. He was serving very well, but I just tried to stick there mentally and play my best tennis when it came."

Sinner replied though by racing 3-0 ahead in the second set as he forced a decider against the 2021 champion.

Zverev saved two break points in the fifth game of the third set but Sinner maintained the pressure despite battling a thigh issue in his first event since retiring with cramp at the Shanghai Masters.

Sinner created another opportunity at 5-all with a blistering backhand down the line and won a lengthy rally the following point to snatch the key break.

A routine hold wrapped up victory for the 24-year-old who has reached the final in eight of his 10 tournaments this season, with Sinner adding to his titles at the Australian Open, Wimbledon and Beijing.

"The third set was a bit of a rollercoaster, but I was feeling the ball very well at times, so I tried to push and I'm very happy of course to win another title," Sinner added.

"It's very special."

Brazilian 19-year-old Joao Fonseca secured the biggest title of his career so far by downing Spain's Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-3, 6-4 in the final of the ATP 500 event in Basel on Sunday.

The teenager now has two Tour-level titles after adding Basle to his Buenos Aires crown from February.

In Switzerland, Fonseca became the third youngest player to win a 500 event since the series began in 1990.

He will break the top 30 in the rankings for the first time, moving from 46 to 28 in the world.

"It is crazy," said Fonseca. "I want to thank my family and my coaches who helped me achieve this amazing effort.

"My parents just came from Brazil. They were coming to Paris and changed their flights and came here one hour before the match with my uncles. It is just amazing to have them here for the biggest title of my career."

Fonseca will next switch his attention to the Paris Masters, which runs from 27 October to 2 November.

In Switzerland, Fonseca broke Davidovich Fokina early in the first set and never looked back as he overwhelmed his 26-year-old opponent with his powerful serve and aggressive baseline hitting.

The Rio de Janeiro-native again broke early in the second set, before securing the trophy on his second match point after one hour and 26 minutes on court.

For Davidovich Fokina, the wait for his first title on the tour continues after his fifth defeat in a final – four of which have come this season.

Brazilian teenager Joao Fonseca overcame Spain's Jaume Munar 7-6 (7/4), 7-5 in Basel on Saturday to advance to the second final of his career.

Fonseca will play Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Sunday.

The Spaniard was leading 7-6 (7/4), 3-1 when his French opponent Ugo Humbert followed the advice of coach Jeremy Chardy and withdrew with a back injury.

Chardy told Humbert, who had taken a medical time out in the third game and was struggling to serve, to stop if he was in "too much pain".

"(I) came here quite late to the tournament, tried to take every day in the best possible way and I'm happy to be here in the final. It was not easy to (reach) the final here," said Sinner.

"The first set was very physical, so I'm happy that I won in two sets today. He changed a couple of things, which I was ready for today."

COMMANDING 4-0 LEAD

Vienna champion in 2023, Sinner came out of the blocks fast, racing through the opening four games and breaking twice to establish a 4-0 lead in 15 minutes.

As the crowd roared its appreciation for the underdog, Sinner seemed to take his foot off the gas, but any hopes of a revival were dashed at 5-3 when the Italian unleashed a searing forehand past De Minaur before wrapping up the opening set.

De Minaur showed more fight in the second set as the pair traded breaks, but Sinner's power and precision proved too much as he broke again to lead 4-3, with the Australian having no answer to the top seed's relentless pressure.

The writing was on the wall when De Minaur sat stone-faced on his chair during a changeover at 5-4 and Sinner duly served out to love to extend his perfect record to 12-0 against the Australian.

Zverev, the 2021 champion, beat fourth seed Lorenzo Musetti 6-4 7-5, firing nine aces as he racked up his 300th hardcourt win.

The German had lost his last three matches against Musetti but this time was well in control as he reached his first final since Stuttgart in June.

Musetti threatened to level the match in the second set when he went 5-4 up but the German held his serve.

Zverev then made the crucial break before serving for the match, sealing his place in the final with an ace.

Zverev will be meeting Sinner for the first time since the Italian beat him in straight sets in the Australian Open final.

"It's going to be a great challenge," Zverev said. "Playing one of the two best players in the world, seeing where my level really is."
